Dear Colleages and Friends,
Asalaamu Alaikum.
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. It is with great pleasure that we share the MMAC's inaugural e-Newsletter with you in commemoration of Eid ul Fitr. We pray that Allah accept all of your fasts and prayers during the month of Ramadan, and we congratulate you and your families on the auspicious occasion of Eid ul Fitr.
It has been almost one year since we sent our our Strategic Planning Survey. Your support of this initiative, along with the ideas and enthusiam with which many of you answered is truly inspirational. We pray that Allah (SWT) give us all the strength, courage, motivation and perseverance to strive in creating a strong, productive and influential community of Muslims physicians in Canada in His service.
The aim of this newsletter is to serve as a means for Canadian Muslim physicians and health professionals to network and share resources, ideas, and information. We also hope to showcase relevant events across the country pertaining to Muslim healthcare issues. Please take the time to share this newsletter with your colleages, and please email us with any articles, events, or letters you would like to share.
You will also note the "Join Our Mailing List" Icon on the top left. Though you may be already on our list, we would greatly appreciate you updating your name and contact information by following that link. Knowing who you are will better enable us to serve you and your needs.

Our Mission
MMAC's mission is to serve God by following the teachings of His Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the Holy Qur'an by promoting social awareness, humanitarianism and excellence in education in the field of medicine among physicians and other health professionals; provide a platform for Canadian Muslim physicians and other health professionals to interact while catering to their specific needs be it spiritually, professionally, or academically; and advocate for Muslim physicians and patients on a national level while providing representation internationally through policy development and implementation Our Vision
Our vision is to build a cadre of Canadian Muslim physicians and healthcare professionals who are proud of and driven by the desire to combine their Islamic heritage with their professional aspirations. MMAC aspires to heighten national awareness of Muslim issues relating to physician practice and patient care. Furthermore, MMAC aims to share the essence of Islam with others, through the provision of medical educational, professional, and humanitarian services not only to Canadians, but also to all of humanity, without discrimination of religious congregation, race, ethnicity, or any other denomination, with the goal of building healthy and just societies. |
University Representative Body |
The University Representative Body (URB) is a division within the MMAC that was created to provide a means of communication between Muslim medical students across Canada. This will insha Allah allow for students to increase collaboration and share ideas with respect to the different initiatives Muslim medical students are organizing across the country.
At present, the URB has been instrumental in:
(1) Creating it's 2nd annual Medical School Admission Guide - providing practical advice to students interested in pursuing a career in medicine. This guide is available for download here.
(2) Creating it's 1st annual Medical Interview Guide - providing practical advice to interviewees on what to expect in a medical school interview.
(3) Providing assistance and guidance to medical school applicants and reviewing personal statements.
(4) Being the contact liasion between the MMAC and other medical students within their respective Universities.
Although the URB has been helpful in providing assitance and guidance to applicants, as an organization, we hold ourselves to a Code of Ethics whereby confidential information entrusted to our representatives by their respective medical schools is not disclosed.
