| Fall Happenings at the Winery...& beyond August 27, 2010
|
|
Greetings! We hope you're having a great summer! Here at the winery, fall means harvest season. While some of you may be gearing up for back to school, we're getting our grapes ready to pick, crush, and make into wine. We'd like to invite you to help us celebrate the harvest - at our Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 11 - see details and times below. We'll most likely be harvesting our Traminette grapes - a unique hybrid varietal and one of our signature wines.
Also, we hope you'll plan to attend the Maryland Wine Festival on September 18 & 19. Volunteer to help us pour and you can get into the festival for free and have some fun on the other side of the table. Our Tasting Room is now open in Elkton. We will be open Saturdays 12-6 and Sundays 1-6 through September and October. Stop by for a tasting - try a sample of each of our wines and take home a keepsake Terrapin Station Winery glass. (A $5 value - see coupon below for a free tasting OR free glass of wine when you visit). See you soon!

CELEBRATE the HARVEST! Fall Harvest Festival - Saturday, September 11
Come celebrate the bounty of the harvest and the beautiful fall season at our winery. Join us in the vineyard to help us harvest our grapes (& earn a free pizza lunch) or sit back and relax with a glass of wine while others do the work. You'll have a front-row seat to watch the magic - as grapes are crushed and prepared to be turned into wine. Harvest begins at 7:30 a.m. Festival hours are 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Enjoy live music, food, family activities, and great specials on all of our wines (by the box or by the glass). The Terrapin Institute folks will share their live terrapins with us. Several vendors will be offering food and products for sale, including Season's Pizza, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, Thirty One and more!
The winery is located at the corner of Ricketts Mill Road and Route 213
(Address: 80 Ricketts Mill Road, Elkton, MD). See Google Map for driving directions or see our Location Page for more information. Hope to see you there! If you can help harvest, please send us a quick note at volunteer@terrapinstationwinery.com to let us know. If you can't make the harvest, remember the Tasting Room is open on weekends (Saturday 12-6, Sunday 1-6) through the middle end of October, so stop by before we're closed for Winter.

Uncorked Rockville Saturday, August 28 Noon - 6 p.m. Rockville Town Square
Visit Rockville's revitalized Town Center for an afternoon Wine and Music Festival that brings together Maryland wineries, an eclectic set of bands, and cooking demonstrations. For $10, you get a glass/free tastings from the different wineries and three stages of entertainment. This festival is small, but is an excellent chance to try some new Maryland wines. For more information, visit the City of Rockville's Events page. If you're close by and would like to volunteer, send us a note at volunteer@terrapinstationwinery.com |
Traminette Get to know this lovely semi-sweet, slightly spicy white wine! One of our favorites!
We'll be harvesting our Traminette grapes in September. We thought we'd give you a little background on this grape and our wine - hopefully you'll love it too!
The Grape - is a hybrid cross of the German Gewürztraminer and the French-American varietal Joannes-Seyve 23.416. Traminette was developed at Cornell
University and is a relatively new grape variety. It grows well in the Northeast, with partial fungal resistance and excellent cold hardiness.
The Wine - has a unique floral aroma and the wonderful spicy flavor of its parent Gewürztraminer. We make ours as a semi-dry, semi-sweet wine to bring out the elegance of its long nose and spice.
This wine is excellent paired with spicy Asian, poultry and/or
seafood dishes. Try it with Thai green papaya salad or chicken sate'. Also, excellent served chilled with Maryland crabs or crab/corn chowder or Smith Island cake.
