Wine Recommendations from Kevin M. Vogt, Master Sommelier
Greetings!

There are winemakers, and then there are Superstar Winemakers.  Bob Foley is certainly a Superstar among the winemakers in Napa and Sonoma Valleys.  His resume includes producing some of the top wines from Napa including Pride Mountain Vineyards, Robert Foley Vineyards (his own label), Hourglass, Paloma and of course Switchback Ridge.

Bob FoleyBob isn't what you might call new on the scene in Napa.  He graduated from UC Davis with degrees in both Enology and viticulture in 1977 and began working with Heitz Vineyards.  Shortly after that, he became the founding winemaker at Markham Vineyards, which he continued for 15 years or so.  In 1993 he became the winemaker for Pride Mountain Vineyards and while there, started crafting wines for other properties such as Hourglass, Paloma and Switchback Ridge as well as his own Robert Foley Vineyards label.  Few winemakers have this kind of track record for artfully producing such highly regarded as well as high-scoring wines in Napa and Sonoma.

Switchback Ridge wines are sourced exclusively from the Peterson Family Vineyard in Calistoga. The rich, rocky soils of this beautiful vineyard property consistently produce low yields of intensely flavored fruit, resulting in extremely concentrated, fruit driven wines that are the hallmark of Switchback Ridge. Not only are they blessed with an incredible vineyard site, but Bob Foley has been making their wines since their first vintage in 1999.

We are pleased to offer the Switchback Ridge Peterson Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2006...

SBRC"Vanilla candy and cherry aromas; tons of structure, toasty oak, espresso and a chocolate mid-palate lead to fine tannins and a glorious, long finish." - Bob Foley

"Beautiful aromas of sweet blackberries, cassis, forest floor, and spring flowers jump from the glass of this full-bodied, opulent, moderately tannic wine. Its textured, layered mouthfeel displays no aggressiveness. Drink this beauty over the next 10-15 years." - Robert Parker 92 Points
