Women Rule!

It is so amazing how a group of women can make you feel so empowered in two days!  When we go home or back to work and share that empowerment with the people around us, those two days stretch into lifetimes.  Hope's Door would like to thank everyone for their support and amazing graciousness at the empowering women confeEWC checkrence.  Thanks to everyone who attend the conference, Hope's Door was able to raise $2,212.28, and increase awareness of domestic violence and create advocates out of so many.  Stories were shared and lives moved by this conference.

At Hope's Door our clients  attend a variety groups and classes that focus on rebuilding their lives, however our program also strives to provide healthy, fun activities for women and children.  If you, or someone you know would like to share your talents with the women and children of Hope's Door we would be very grateful for the contribution of time and talents.  The activities can focus on the women, children or the whole family.  Examples of possible activities are: art projects, karaoke, facials/makeovers, cookie decorating, knitting lessons, and bracelet making. Times can vary, but we try to schedule the activities on the weekend.  If you are interested or would like more information please call Ashley Greenewald at 459-6279.
Fight BAC, Keep Family Food Safe!
Article from Nibbles for Health: Nutrition Newsletters for Parent's of Young Children, published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

CLEAN: Wash hands, counter and your table often and carefully.
Bacteria that make you sick are invisible. Yet they can spread everywhere around your kitchen, then to the food your family eats. Involve your child with food safety at home:
  • Make proper hand washing a family habit: before and after handling food, and after using the bathroom, changing diapers and handling family pets.
  • Wash kitchen utensils and surfaces with hot, soapy water. Let your child help.
  • Wash cutting boards and sponges in hot, soapy water, each time they're used.
  • Clean with paper towels; toss them when you're done. Wash cloth towels often on the hot cycle of your washing machine. Make cleaning fun with colorful towels.
SEPARATE: Keep raw and cooked foods separate.
Harmful bacteria can spread from one food to others. Show your child how to separate raw meat, poultry, and fish from other foods.
  • Keep raw meat, poultry and fish wrapped, in sealed containers or plastic bags, so the juices won't drip out.
  • Wash anything (including your hands) that touches raw meat, poultry, or fish before using it with other food.
  • Never put cooked food on the same plate or cutting board that held raw food-- unless you wash it first.
