Greetings! It has been 23 days since we sent our last newsletter - and in that short time, we have truly been blessed. In that newsletter I shared how difficult things have been financially over the last few months. Now I am excited to share the blessings we have received in such a short time.
Let me count a few:
We received an outpouring of support for the shelter and victim services. This support has been financial, as well as donated goods and volunteer hours.
Orders for fresh
garden veggies have been coming in every day this week. Proceeds from the vegetable sales go directly to support the shelter.
We were awarded a
grant from the Office on Violence Against Women under the Domestic
Violence, Dating Violence, Stalking and Sexual Assault Transitional
Housing Program Recovery Grant. This is a three year grant that will provide funds for case management and victim services. This grant includes funding to assist victims with rental and utility assistance when they are fleeing domestic violence dating violence, stalking or sexual assault.
We were awarded a grant through the Idaho State Police under the Stop Violence Against Women Recovery grant program. The funds from this grant will cover salaries for two advocates and provides victim services in rural Canyon and Owyhee Counties.
We have been able to re-organize and improve the Hope's Door Thrift Store. Business has been slowly increasing and for the first time in over twelve months, we
made a small profit that can go to support the shelter. NOTE: We need your continued support. Please bring in your good, used items and spread the word about our store.
Our supply of toilet paper, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies and
paper towels was almost completely depleted. The donations over the last week has kept us supplied. NOTE: We are still very low on toilet paper and trash bags.
Another way we are richly blessed is through the women that live at Hope's Door. Last week several of the ladies stopped by my office to say good night. One of them had a 2 month old baby. As we took turns holding the baby, we talked about our children, how fast they grow and our hopes and dreams for them. Each of the women in my office that evening, expressed gratitude for the opportunities here at Hope's Door and the commitment they've made to themselves and their children for a brighter, healthier future.
It is you that makes these hopes and dreams possible. We may be the ones on the front line working to end family violence - but we could not be here without you. Your encouragement, your prayers and your ongoing support make all of this possible. The simple words - thank you - although sincere, just can't convey the overwhelming gratitude we feel at this time.
Humbly, Brenda Cameron |

2006-2007 Fiesta Bowl
winning team. He earned Defensive Player of the Game for his Fiesta
Bowl prowess, which included two interceptions, one of which was a
touchdown. Marty imparts a message of hope and faith. Join us for an inspirational and fun evening. October 10th, 2009 Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Dinner and the program start at 7:00 p.m. Order your tickets today Questions? Call 459-6279 |

Be an Involved Parent (Corrections)
|
No Child Left Behind
Hopefully you had a chance to read our August Newsletter. We would like to make a few corrections to our 'Be an Involved Parent' article. We received some information from the school district that we would like to pass on to you. Under Public School Choice: A parent
may only transfer a student to another school if the school the student is
currently attending is in the second year or beyond of school improvement, and
if there are other options available.
Under Supplemental Educational Services (SES): A
school which has not met AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) for three years or is in corrective action or
restructuring status has to offer SES. This is only available to students
receiving free or reduced lunch (students from low-income families).
For more information on either of these topics you can contact your child's
school district or The U.S. department of Education, toll-free at
1-800-USA-LEARN. www.ed.gov

Recovery Fair
|
Great Success From the kids booths - to the belly and zumba dances - to the great speakers, this year's Recovery Fair was a lot of fun and a great success. People were able to come together, share their stories and receive information from the many organizations that participated. Thank you to everyone who donated to this event and allowed so many people to have a great time, go home with prizes and increase their awareness of services and support available to them in our community.
Here are some of the pictures from this great event.
