Greetings!
I hope you had a Happy and Safe Fourth! I am very grateful to live in the United States where we have so many freedoms and rights. One of our rights is the ability to stand up for what we believe and make a difference in our community.
In July of 2004, many of you took advantage of that right when you helped make it possible to open Hope's Door. On July 10th of this year, Hope's Door has provided shelter and services for five years. During that time we provided over 55,000 shelter nights to over 350 women and over 400 children. But, Hope's Door is so much more than a shelter. We offer 11 programs for families as we take a stand against abuse and violence. Through those programs we have helped thousands of individuals.
In 1776, our Founding Fathers took a stand against tyrrany and laid the groundwork for America to become the powerful nation it is today. At Hope's Door, it is our mission to lay a foundation for each individual to experience personal freedom and live a life without fear, abuse or violence.
Join me and the rest of the staff of AAFV and Hope's Door as we celebrate five years of valuable service to our community. Thank you for all you have done to make it possible.

News & Views
Check out the Saturday, June 27 issue of the Idaho Press Tribune to read about a very special project that garnered in-kind donations for Hope's Door! The article can be found on page Main 3. The headline reads:
FORMER DRUG ADDICT ORGANIZES BENEFIT EVENT
Dawn Dee Fenn, recovering from a 20-year methamphetamine addiction and celebrating more than 300 days clean and sober, decided to organize a benefit drive for Hope's Door Shelter. Dawn said she attends drug court with a lot of women living at Hope's Door, and wanted to begin a new adventure of giving to the community.
Dawn was able to collect at least 4 shopping carts and several boxes of badly-needed resources for Hope's Door residents, including food, personal items and toiletries.
Dawn, We at Hope's Door want to say, "Way to Go!" We are so proud of you, and you are an inspiration to us all. Use that Library card often, and keep up the good work. Thank you for what you did for Hope's Door. It means a lot to us.
Sincerely, Hope's Door Residents & Staff

WHY WE ARE HERE
Hope's Door is home to 19 women and 28 children right now.
Each day we interact with and comfort women facing incredible obstacles that seem insurmountable. But they do it - they get through each day dealing with traumatized children, addiction issues, lack of job opportunities, transportation challenges, and internal struggles beyond what many of us can imagine.
One of our new young mothers recently completed Hope's Door courses and Drug Court. In celebration, she completed 25 hours of service to her sisters here at Hope's Door.
Just as we all have experienced at one time or another in our lives - a little help at the right time goes a very long way!
Hope's Door saves lives by providing a safe harbor from domestic violence. Hope's Door rewrites the future through compassionate and non-judgmental advocacy and education services that build-up women and children and give them the tools to succeed.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS
Hello AAFV family! My name is Micki Hempsmyer and I am the new Development Director here at AAFV. I will be helping with outreach, grants, fund raising, public relations, events and other development projects. I am truly looking forward to meeting and working with each of you.
I would like to share with you some of the reasons I decided to come on board with AAFV and Hope's Door Shelter.
1) Belief: I am a firm believer in the mission, the people, and the work of AAFV and Hope's Door. The "Why We Are Here" section of this newsletter may help explain.
2) Opportunity: I have been presented with the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a service organization that is going to have a profound and lasting impact on the quality of life in the greater Treasure Valley, including our neglected rural communities. MICKI HEMPSMYER
3) Passion: I have met many of our clients. Lives are deeply touched through Hope's Door and the other programs of AAFV. At Hope's Door, people are loved, supported, educated, held accountable and infused with the courage to take charge of their own lives.
What are the reasons you support AAFV and Hope's Door? Send your feedback to me at: mhempsmyer@hopesdoor.org . If you are not yet involved with or actively contributing to AAFV, let me offer up a few good reasons to consider deepening your commitment and increasing your giving: · Local Impact: AAFV/Hope's Door is a home-grown, local movement responding to a serious local issue. A lot of other nonprofits in the area are part of a national network and their local presence is like a "franchise". In most cases, a portion of their locally raised revenue is sent out-of-area to support parent agencies and headquarters. Decisions about their direction can be made by people who know nothing about local needs. With AAFV, every penny stays right here helping make our community a better place for your own family as well as your neighbors. · Personal Impact: You are the one to best decide where you want your charitable dollars to go. Through taxes, the federal government is deciding for you who your money will help. Other organizations tell you to give to them so that they can decide what charities and issues deserve your support. Often these agencies spend much of your money supporting their own goals and promoting their own agenda. At AAFV, we believe that what you support should be determined by you. Here, your time, talent and local involvement are just as appreciated as your money. Your contributions to AAFV and Hope's Door are tax deductible. So don't let the government and others decide who to help. We hope you choose AAFV! · Profound Impact: The issue of domestic violence is a touch stone to virtually every other societal problem we are all trying to address - drug and alcohol addiction, all forms of violence including robbery and gun violence, child abuse and neglect, poverty...supporting AAFV is a way of joining forces with others to truly change your community.
Please take that leap of faith and become a supporter of AAFV/Hope's Door. You may visit our website at www.hopesdoor.org to get more information on how you can help. You may also give me a call at (208) 459-6279. I look forward to hearing from you. And by the way, thank you!
Micki

SPACE...THE FINAL FRONTIER
AAFV Family Education Center that facilitates Parents As Teachers and Supervised Visitation programs is going to be needing new office space in a few months, due to reconstruction of the area in which our current facility is located.
Please keep your eyes peeled for a good location in Caldwell that might be available at low or no cost. Maybe you know of a property owner with whom we could collaborate for a tax write-off, or maybe they'd even like to donate a facility for tax purposes.
We hope you will help us seek out new frontiers. If you need more information please contact Cori at 459-6330.
