 Thinking Psychoanalytically: The Basics

This 16-session course provides an overview of a clinical and humanistic perspective informed by psychoanalysis. Students will read seminal and contemporary papers and texts and will be introduced to key psychoanalytic figures, theories, and technical issues. This course is designed for clinicians but is also appropriate for the interested lay person. Class will be limited to 12 students.

Introduction to Psychodynamic Assessment

This 10 session course will provide a psychoanalytic framework for approaching the clinical evaluation of clients-both new and complex on-going cases. Applying a psychoanalytic lens to patient assessment allows the clinician to more deeply consider the nuances each particular individual brings to the therapist's office when seeking help. Class will be limited to 10 students and is for clinicians at beginning through intermediate levels.

Psychological Development across the Life Cycle
Instructor: Nancy Livingston, MD Assistant Instructor: John Tisdale, DMin Dates: August 31 - January 4 Time: Tuesday, 6:15 pm - 7:45 pm CME Credits: 24 CE Credits: 9 Category A & 15 Category B There are developmental challenges to be mastered throughout the life cycle from infancy to old age. This 16 session course will utilize a psychoanalytic perspective to explore these intrapsychic and interpersonal developmental tasks. We will consider diverse theoretical perspectives using readings from classic and more contemporary articles. Class will be limited to 10 students and is for clinicians at intermediate through advanced levels. |
Psychoanalytic Models of Brief Therapy

This 8 session seminar addresses psychoanalytic approaches to brief treatment from Freud through more contemporary practitioners. We will examine in depth the Vanderbilt model of Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy, a relational psychodynamic model designed to treat a wide range of patients with chronic patterns of maladaptive relationships. Class will be limited to 10 students and is for clinicians at intermediate through advanced levels. |
 Using Dreams in Your Clinical Work Instructor: Lida M. Jeck, MD Dates: October 28 - January 6 Time: Thursday, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm CME Credits: 12 CE Credits: 9 Category A & 3 Category B This 8 session course will focus on enhancing clinical work through the use of dreams in both insight-oriented therapy and more supportive treatment approaches. Students will learn how to use dreams to understand better what lies beneath the surface of the material a patient presents and to help patients better understand themselves. Class will be limited to 10 students and is for clinicians at beginning through intermediate levels. |
