Dear Friend of NCPF, |
Our Spring Membership Drive is underway. Have you sent in your membership dues yet? View the wonderful summary of our 2009 accomplishments made possibly with YOUR support. We hope you will take the time to renew your NCPF membership Online TODAY!
Have you ever thought about giving monthly? It is the easiest way to support NCPF all year long. We can schedule monthly drafts to your credit card or you can send automatic monthly payments through your banking institution. This helps donors as they are able to spread out their donation over several months. And just think, at just $15-20 per month (per year) you could be a Supporting member. If you are interested in setting up a monthly draft, you download the AutoPay information sheet from our giving page.
Remember...TOGETHER we have IMPACT! TOGETHER we BUILD COMMUNITY! Help us make 2010 another productive year. Renew now! |

Board Member "Spotlight" |

This Month, the NC Psychoanalytic Foundation is pleased to highlight James Peacock, PhD who has served on the NCPF Board of Directors since January 2003. He has also been involved on the nominating committee since 2007 and currently acts as co-chair of this committee. As we mentioned last month, the nominating committee will be busy in the next few months as NCPF looks to look for additional members within our community to share their expertise and time, and in turn, enrich our overall Board. Please feel free to let NCPF know if you are interested in sharing your time and talents!
James L. Peacock is Kenan Professor of Anthropology and formerly Director of the University Center for International Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Duke University and his Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from Harvard. His fieldwork includes studies of proletarian culture in Surabaya, Indonesia (see Rites of Modernization, University of Chicago Press), of Muslim fundamentalism in Southeast Asia (see Muslim Puritans, University of California Press), and of Primitive Baptists in Appalachia (see Pilgrims of Paradox, Smithsonian). He is also the author of The Anthropological Lens (Cambridge University Press). In addition to his academic work, Dr. Peacock was Chair of the Anthropology Department from 1975-1980 and 1990-1991, and Chair of the Faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill from 1991-1994. He was President of the American Anthropological Association from 1993-1995. In 1995 he was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Recently, The Anthropological Lens was published in China and Dr. Peacock will soon revisit Muhammadijah, a Muslim organization, now boasting 35 million members.
Thank you Dr. Peacock for your continued support of the Foundation! |

Peaceful Schools-NC Update
PS-NC is currently looking to add an additional site in the Charlotte or Wake Co. area. If you know of any school communities that may be interested please have them complete the Interest Survey posted on our website. Our Peaceful Schools Committee is actively looking for appropriate grants. If you have any suggestions for funding sources, please email Sarah Stiegler. |
Ask an Analyst |
"Ask a Psychoanalyst", through the American Psychoanalytic Association, provides a way for you to submit questions you may have regarding psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic treatment in general. Please note that questions of a personal nature cannot be answered here; rather, those are best answered by a psychoanalyst of your choice. APsaA searchable member directory will help you locate a clinician or clinic in your area. | |

We Asked, You Answered |
Thank you to all of those who participated in our May Poll. The winner of the May raffle who will be receiving a dozen free bagels and cream cheese, complements of Breugger's, is Ms. Sylvia Adkins. Congratulations!
Last month we asked you, our readers,
What do you feel is a reasonable charge for a full day program (lunch and CME/CE's are extra)?
We asked and you answered. The results showed that 46% of those who participated in the poll believed $75-$95 was a reasonable charged for a program while a close 38% selected $50-$70. There were others, 15%, that thought $100-$125 wasn't too much to contribute for a valuable program. As always, we greatly appreciate the feedback of our readers and value what you share! |

Thank you for taking the time to read about the many programs being offered by those sharing our passion for mental wellness in our community. As we head into the summer months there are fewer programs and events to share with you. It has been our practice to take a break during the month of July and resume our newsletters in August as we head into the Fall. Therefore, please look for a monthly email from us the first week in August and our bi-weekly on August 20th. We will resume our normal distributions in September when the calendar begins to get full again.
Sincerely, |
Sarah Stiegler
