Board Member "Spotlight" |
Lida Jeck, MD is celebrating her one-year anniversary with the NCPF board this January. Dr. Jeck graduated from Duke Medical School before doing her residency in psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After becoming a psychiatrist, she graduated from the Psychoanalytic Institute of the Carolinas in 1991 and became certified in adult psychoanalysis in 1996 by the America Psychoanalytic Association. She currently maintains a private practice in adolescent and adult psychotherapy and psychoanalysis in Durham.
In addition to serving the triangle community as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst for over 25 years, Dr. Jeck was president of the North Carolina Psychoanalytic Society from 2004 to 2006, and she is currently the first director of the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas (PECC). The PECC was created in 2008 by joining the Psychoanalytic Institute of the Carolinas and the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center of NC, and under Dr. Jeck's leadership it has expanded psychoanalytic education by offering open courses for mental health professionals and increasing the number of students in its certificate programs. She is delighted that PECC is encouraging professionals to develop themselves through a combination of didactic coursework, one on one supervision, and personal treatment, and she is committed to PECC's mission of promoting the availability of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy throughout our state. |

We Asked, You Answered |
Last month we asked you, our readers, "Which topic would you like to learn more about as it relates to NCPF?" Seventy-one percent (71%) answered Professional Development.
Over the years, NCPF has naturally become a primary source in North Carolina for communicating professional development as it relates to psychoanalysis and other related disciplines. Information is shared through our e-mail communications, at our events, and on our interactive, web based calendar. As the central point of contact, NCPF helps professionals throughout our state become more aware of the psychoanalytic resources available in North Carolina.
Psychoanalytic training and development is held within the wealth of knowledge of our own psychoanalytic community. While the NCPF offers professional development each year with nationally known psychoanalyst, the NC Psychoanalytic Society provides clinical training opportunities through their scientific program series and classes offered through the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas (PECC). These programs range from 2 hour Saturday programs up to weekly classes that can count towards Certificate programs in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
The programs and events that are included in our communications are not only for mental health professionals, but also for the general public. Most are open to anyone who is interested in the topic being offered. Each of the program administrators are happy to answer any question you may have as it relates to the content of their programs.
