BULLYING STUDY RELEASED
The Archives of General Psychiatry (vol. 66, pp. 1005-1012) printed an article on September 18, 2009 on childhood bullying and victimization. This study was supported by a grant from the Finnish National Social Insurance Institution and the Sigrid Juselius Foundation, Finland. Click here to link to the Abstract. More information about bullying, particularly related to girls, is available on the US Department of Health and Human Services Web site. Clinical Context of Article Release: Bullying refers to repetitive aggressive acts characterized by an imbalance of power and inability of the victims to defend themselves. Bullying and victimization have been li nked to poorer family functioning, interparental violence, and parental maltreatment. Children who are both bullies and victims appear to be the most dysfunctional in outcomes. To date, however, no prospective, population-based study has evaluated predictive associations between childhood bullying behavior and long-term mental health outcomes in both boys and girls. Please feel free to contact NCPF at admin@ncpsychoanalysis.org if you would like a copy of the article highlights.
