North Carolina Society for Clinical Social Work (NCSCSW) 2009 Annual Ethics Conference - Plagues of our Times: The ethics of action in disaster Location: 325 Pittsboro St, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 (UNC School of Social Work, Chapel Hill) Presented by: Jane Finch, MSW, LCSW Description: This workshop considers the tensions between individual-familial interests and social responsibility, aiming to help participants clarify their emotional and moral positions and better anticipate their own course of action in a catastrophe. In keeping with President Obama's call to service, now is a good time for mental health professionals to consider whether and in what ways we might contribute our skills in a time of dire need.
This workshop draws inspiration from the novel, The Plague, by Albert Camus, and the range of responses to human suffering depicted in the novel. It is strongly encouraged to read the novel prior to the workshop.

The NC Psychoanalytic Foundation and its sponsors are proud to announce its first ever teen multimedia contest promoting anti-bullying. We request that our mental health professional friends help us spread the word! Please encourage colleagues and patients who may have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. that are currently in grades 6-12 grade in North Carolina to submit creative projects for the contest now through March 31st. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 7:30pm ET/PT Primetime Special Premiering April 1 on PBS Community-Based Support for Military FamiliesThe Talk, Listen, Connect Initiative provides support and offers significant resources for military families with young children experiencing the effects of deployments, multiple deployments or when a parent returns home changed due to a combat related injury. The materials consist of a bilingual (English/Spanish) multimedia outreach kit with DVDs for children and adults starring the Muppets from Sesame Street, and print materials for children, parents and caregivers and facilitators. Sesame Workshop has produced over 1.3 million kits which are being distributed, at no cost, to individual families, schools, child care programs, family support programs, hospitals and rehabilitation centers and other organizations serving the needs of military families. The Talk, Listen, Connect materials are also available online at www.sesamestreet.org/tlc so that families everywhere can view the videos and download the information. Families can also find information about the program on www.pbsparents.org. The North Carolina Psychoanalytic Foundation provides outreach to our state's military families using Sesame Street Workshop's Talk, Listen, Connect programs. NCPF is involved through the efforts of board member, Harold Kudler, MD. Dr. Kudler serves on the Advisory board for this project and has presented this program throughout North Carolina. New Class is Beginning September 2009 Application Deadline is April 1st
Certificate program training includes:
- Coursework in theory & technique
- Supervised clinical work
- A personal analysis or intensive psychoanalytic psychotherapy
- The psychotherapy certificate requires either a current or completed intensive psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapy or personal psychoanalysis.
- The psychoanalysis certificate requires a personal psychoanalysis during training.
Students who are accepted into the certificate programs may pursue a certificate in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and/or psychoanalysis.
Each program will have different clinical and academic requirements, but students in both programs will take many of their basic courses together. This allows students to get started in an integrated training program before deciding whether to specialize in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, or both.

HopeLine, Inc. is a free and confidential 24-hour crisis hotline that has been helping people for over 30 years. No one should have to feel alone. Be one of our caring, non-judgmental well-trained volunteers!
By volunteering with HopeLine, you will participate in an in-depth professional training program that will instruct you how to help others with a wide array of crisis issues such as: loneliness and depression, domestic violence, relationship problems, mental illness, substance abuse, and suicide.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. As HopeLine is proud to provide non-judgmental services, volunteers should be open-minded and able to set aside biases when speaking with callers dealing with controversial issues.Our schedules are flexible and accommodating. You may volunteer a minimum of only 12 hours per month, but can also contribute much more.
