New Year's Resolutions
Tell us your resolution....
How are those New Year's resolutions going? Remember, it is never too late to include helping share our vision with your friends and nieghbors. Here are some suggested New Year's resolutions which will help promote psychoanalytic ideas in our community:
1. Volunteer your time and talents in our office or at our programs.
2. Join a NCPF committee.
3. Take a friend to a MindPlay performance.
4. Contribute to one of our scholarship programs.
5. Encourage a colleague to join the NCPF and enjoy the membership benefits.
6. Join the 12/12 club. Commit to a five year commitment of giving to the NCPF.
7. Take a course through the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas.
8. Do your online shopping and travel arrangements through give.com/NCPF. $5 is raised for NCPF with each person who joins. It is free to join.

NCPF Welcomes its Newest Board Member
John Tote, III
We are excited to announce the most recent member of the NCPF Board of Directors, John Tote, III.
John Tote is the Executive Director of the Mental Health Association in North Carolina. He previously served with the Johnson and Guilford County Area Mental Health Programs where he received his Qualified Mental Health Professional Certification. John graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed his graduate work at Southeastern Baptist Seminary in Wake Forest. John has been involved as a board member and volunteer of many state and community organizations. He has also served as Board President for many of those organizations, including Harbor in Johnson County, which is a domestic violence and rape crisis program, Life Experiences of Wake County, which is a developmental disabilities vocational program, and the North Carolina Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Association. As part of his role as the Executive Director of the MHA/NC, John works closely with the North Carolina General Assembly, as well as other policy-makers. He has served as chairperson for Coalition 2001, which is a group of 48 state-level, state-wide mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse non-profit organizations, and serves as an adjunct faculty member at UNC/Chapel Hill in the Rehabilitation, Psychology, and Counseling Masters Degree Program.

TEEN MULTIMEDIA CONTEST

The NC Psychoanalytic Foundation, along with WriteMore, Family Piano Academy, Papa Johns Pizza and Best Buy, are excited to announce their Teen Multimedia Contest for all middle and high school students currently enrolled in an accredited public, private, parochial, or home school. This contest is an extension of our Peaceful Schools Program, an evidenced based program, promoting a more peaceful learning environment for the children in our community.
Keeping in mind that each child has individual interests and talents, we have developed this contest for teens to communicate by the creative medium of their choice. This means they are able to create a podcast, write an essay, create a brochure, or even write a song, to name a few.
A grand prize will be award to the overall contest winner in each division and
additional prizes will be presented to overall category winners for Essay, Technology and Creative Design for each the Middle and High school submissions. These winners and their teacher will be invited to attend our Peaceful Schools Program on Anti-bullying that will be held on October 24, 2009 and their creative works will be on display.

for family members of close relatives with Major Depression Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression) Schizophrenia and Schizoaffective Disorder Panic Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Borderline Personality Disorder
The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is FREE of charge. NAMI is offering a series of 12 weekly classes to help family members understand and support their ill relative while maintaining their own well being. The course is taught by a team of trained volunteer family members who know what it's like to have a loved one with a serious mental illness in the family.
Over 175,000 family members in the U.S. and Canada have completed this course. We think you will be pleased by how much assistance the program offers. We invite you to call for more information. Classes are offered throughout North Carolina. There is no cost to participate in this program. Please note registration is required and space is limited to 25 people.
