Greetings!
Diamonds are an integral part of many lapidary tools and processes. So when was the last time you checked the wear on yours? |
Sizing up Your Diamond Laps
Do your laps seem to be cutting slower? Having trouble telling the difference between your 600 and 1200 grit laps? If you answered yes, it's time to check your laps for wear before you start in on all those holiday and winter show projects!
And while you're checking, do you have all the grits to successfully work the stones you want? Softer stones, like opals and obsidian, can benefit from using a 3000 grit lap between 1200 grit and final polish. Or, you may want to start with a coarser lap, like a 100 grit, when working harder stones like Brazilian agates, corundum, and beryl.
