Greetings!
Happy New Year!
We gratefully want to express our appreciation for two great opportunities this fall to advocate for those in and from foster care at a community and international level. We also want to wish everyone a wonderful 2010! Our hope for the Pacific Northwest Alumni of Foster Care (PNAFC) in 2010 is to continue our advocacy work and to appreciate every opportunity already given.

University of Washington School of Nursing-Partnerships in Community Health NCLIN 409 - Seattle, WA

The University of Washington's School of Nursing is providing another opportunity for Delilah Bruskas to speak about her community work as an advocate for those in and from foster care. Her presentation to the Bachelors of Science in Nursing students will focus on how she is using her experiences in foster care and her nursing background to positively affect policy and practice. |

The Partnerships in Community Health NCLIN 409 presentation emphasized the impact nurses can have in communities and provided an opportunity for Delilah Bruskas to share how she as a nurse and an alumna of foster care advocates for those in and from foster care to positively influence policy and practice. The Bachelors of Science in Nursing students expressed great interest, participation, and had many comments and questions. The American Nurses Association (2003) nursing definition was presented to reinforce the advocacy work for those in and from foster care and its emphasis to improve health outcomes.

The Social Justice and Social Change Research Centre (SJSC) of the University of Western Sidney's (UWS) Pre-Conference Symposium Children as Experts in Their Own Lives: Child Inclusive Research was a great international opportunity for PNAFC to advocate for those in and from foster care. The paper Foster care children: A vulnerable population at risk (Bruskas, 2008)was presented. |
