Delilah Bruskas an invited "guest speaker" for a nursing class (TNURS 412) spoke about foster care, policy and practice, and advocating as a nurse and as an alumna of foster care. The presentation went well and the discussion that followed with RNs working on their bachelors of nursing was stimulating and many insightful points were made and discussed. This was an amazing group of nurses and who turned the presentation into an awesome event.
Youth Suicide Prevention Conference (YSPC)

Delilah Bruskas co-presented with Casey Family Programs at the Youth Suicide Prevention Conference in Seattle, WA.
We are excited to share that this was a successful conference and are also pleased to present some of what happened at the conference provided to us by Heather Carter, GLBTQ Project Coordinator of Youth Suicide Prevention Program (YSPP).
This conference funded by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services) focused on GLBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Questioning) youth, tribal youth, youth in foster care, homeless youth, and youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
"In all, there were 13 workshops and 2 key note speakers who were able to share their expertise in working with youth and increasing support for these youth, " reported Heather. Registration filed over a month prior to the conference with a waitlist of 50.
PNAFC provided 20 youth with 3 books, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, and Dare to Wear Your Soul on the Outside by Gloria Burgess.

Delilah Bruskas, an alumna of the UW-Tacoma, an invited opening speaker at the Graduate New Student Orientation spoke about her educational accomplishments despite coming from a nontraditional background (foster care). She talked about the obstacles and challenges she and many from foster care face and was able to bring about a greater awareness of foster care issues to a group of students embarking on their Masters level education.
