TSA 100% Air Cargo Screening Deadline Approaches

In February 2009, the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) called for all US export shipments transported on passenger aircrafts to meet a more stringent set of security controls and screenings.  Following recommendations of the 2007 Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act, the TSA regulation required that Air Forwarders, Air Carriers and the TSA inspect at least 50 percent of all export cargo on passenger flights by February 2009, 75% by May 2010 and 100 percent by August 2010.

The August 1st deadline for screening 100 percent of cargo transported on passenger aircrafts to, from and within the United States is now about four months away.  TSA Branch Chief, Certified Cargo Screening Program, Marc Rossi emphasized at the recent FAA Aviation Forecast Conference in Washington, that there will be zero tolerance for unscreened domestic and outbound cargo when the August 1st deadline arrives.

BDP has been closely monitoring progress of the regulation and is focused on properly managing the demands for cargo screening with our clients, their products,  airline partners, and our own US operations.

In preparation for this deadline, BDP has developed trusted relationships with TSA compliant screening providers in order to meet the initial requirement of screening 50% of all export cargo and have used the lessons learned to meet the May 1st deadline of screening 75% of all export cargo on passenger flights, as well as, create back-up plans for issues that may arise.

BDP is ready to execute the TSA screening requirements through our US air gateways, procedures and trained personnel to properly expedite cargo movement from screening facility then directly to the airlines to ensure flight schedules are met
