JAG (Jobs for America's Graduates)
Jobs for America's Graduates ,or JAG as we call it, is a school- to- career program that focuses on Career Development , Job Attainment, Job Survival, Leadership and Self -Development, Life Survival and Work Place competencies.  This program is focused towards juniors and seniors in high school to help them develop a sense of life after high school and the options that are available to them.  The students gain "real life" experiences through opportunities such as: community involvement, guest speakers, college tours, internships, and job shadowing. We allow the students to open up and explore all possibilities through self learning and self evaluations.   The students are encouraged to follow their passion and find a way to turn that passion into a career they will love!

Tuesday-Dance & H.A.L.O. Project
Wednesday-Art & Cooking
Thursday-Drama & Cooking
Friday-Advanced Cooking & FUN DAY (community service projects, field trips, special activities.)

Greetings!

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our new students and their families!

Now that school has been underway for a month, students have the opportunity to get involved in a variety of after school activities, our music program is getting underway as well under the direction of Mrs. Lindsay Speth and our sports teams have started their competitions.  All of these activities have information in this newsletter, so check them out to see how your child can get involved!  There are also opportunities for parents to volunteer and get involved as well, so see Mrs. Erin's piece about Parent Pride.

We hope you and your family take advantage of ALL the great things going on at the Met! You can also visit our website,

Eyes on the Prize:  Graduation
This month has been a busy one for the seniors as we have been gearing up for the GQE, preparing for the virtual days all while continuing the march towards graduation.  I would like to congratulate all of the seniors that have passed the GQE and hope that they have enjoyed their days off (while completing their assigned work of course!).  Further congratulations go to those that have made the three days of testing a great environment.  Staff and students did a wonderful job!

The end of September marks the end of our first session and our focus with the kids will shift to Senior Thesis Projects, internships and college applications.  Again, all while doing everything necessary to have the kids ready to walk across the stage May 28th!

Class of 2012 News
Back in Action!
The Junior School is off to another roaring start! This year our primary focus is core content classes with great emphasis on math, science, and English skills. We are excited that we have placed a record number of JUNIOR students in college classes and that we are hosting Indianapolis Metropolitan High Schools largest class EVER! We are off to a great start as we added two new advisors and advisories this year. In the future months we will all be working diligently to hit our school wide goals of 100% LTI placement and 100% of students passing the End of Course Assessment Exams.
Class of 2013 News
The Age of Exploration
All sophomore courses have some connection to the founding of America including covering how math was used in the 1700 and 1800's. Students are reading great speeches as well as the establishment of the United States Constitution.  Students are studying music, medicine and fashion, as well as weapons of the era. This thematic approach enables students to explore their interests while connecting with the beginnings of American history.  There will be a gallery walk with student projects later in the school year so stay tuned.  If you have items from the period that you would be willing to lend or allow to be photographed, this will  to help students delve deeper into their projects.  Contact Clete Ladd at clete.ladd@indianapolismet.org or at 524-4031.

Class of 2014 News
Welcome Freshmen!
On August 19th the class of 2014 started a new journey!  The freshmen walked through the doors without a clue of what to expect but were welcomed by our stellar freshmen staff.  The staff includes our principal Mr. Jagga, Learning Through Internship Coordinator, Mr Patrick, our dedicated team of advisors:  Mrs. Jassmine, Ms. Katie, Mr. Kevin, Ms. Shanna, Ms. Shelly, Mr. Tom and me, Mr. Yuri, the Read 180 Instructor.  It has been great to see our students learn "The Met Way," which incorporates relationships, relevance and rigor into each of our student's learning experience.  Some things they have been working on thus far include spending an afternoon downtown where the students had to meet and talk with different business employees to learn about career possiblities for their internships that will start toward the middle of the year.  They also worked diligently on a colonial marketing assignment where they were responsible for doing research on the original thirteen colonies and putting together presentations.  The students teamed up in groups and had to market to "settlers" why their colony was the best to live in.  In the upcoming days, our freshmen will begin taking health education classes at the Ruth Lilly Health Education Center.

All year we will continue working towards our class vision that states:  "We are committed to be responsibly engaged citizens and dedicated learners who pursue our passions and post-secondary opportunities!"
