24th GREAT BRANDON AUCTION WAS HUGE SUCCESS
Despite the rain that fell the moment the gavel went down, the Chamber's 24th Annual Great Brandon Auction was a tremendous success. The rain didn't last long and didn't damper spirits nor bidding. We are blown away by the generosity of this year's donors, bidders, buyers, and volunteers. Auctioneer Barb Watters sold just about everything -- the beautiful original art pieces, unique and interesting gift certificates, and the box lots full of mystery and surprise! While the grand total is still being added up, it looks as if the auction did better than last year by at least $1500 and we hope to realize a net profit of about $9000. Proceeds from the auction support the many activities and programs of the Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce including the Brandon Museum at the Stephen A. Douglas Birthplace. We thank everyone who helped with the success including volunteers from as far away as France and campers from Camp Betsey Cox in Pittsford. There are way too many people who helped to name everyone but you know who you are. But most importantly, once again, we couldn't do it without the Auction Team: Managers Bernie Carr and Joel Mondlak and Auctioneer Barb Watters.

BRANDON MUSIC
Jazz at Brandon Music Presents Michael Benedict & Bopitude August 2, 7:30pm
Brandon Music, located at 62 Country Club Road in Brandon, Vermont, will present Michael Benedict & Bopitude on August 2 at 7:30pm. General Admission is $12. Brandon Music offers an Early Bird dinner special, which includes a ticket for the jazz performance, for $22 per person. Full menu available at standard prices. Venue is BYOB.
For Information & Reservations (802) 465-4071 / info@brandon-music.net
Michael Benedict & Bopitude revisits the most memorable tunes of the hard bop era while bringing back to life some more obscure treasures from the past. The band features Michael Benedict on drums, David Caldwell-Mason on piano, Brian Patneaude on tenor saxophone, Chris Pasin on trumpet and Mike Lawrence on bass. Jazz Times critic Bill Milkowski applauded Bopitude, noting that: "Veteran drummer Michael Benedict's mission statement comes through loud and clear in the title of this aggressively swinging hard-bop offering. Straight-ahead fans will surely dig this."
Brandon Music Presents Salt River Revue in Benefit Concert, 8/12
Brandon Music, at 62 Country Club Road in Brandon, Vermont, presents the Salt River Revue on Sunday, August 12 at 4:00PM, in the Brandon Music Café. All proceeds will benefit the Compass Music and Arts Foundation. Tickets are $15. For tickets or information, contact Brandon Music at (802) 465-4071 or info@brandon-music.net.
The Salt River Revue represents the coming together of two Vermont bands: The Salt Ash Serenaders and The Cold River Band. Hence the name Salt River. The members have been good friends through the years and have often joined forces in various combinations for playing concerts, contra dances and celebrations. After one such event, where all five members were playing together, the idea was planted for a more formal arrangement for their musical efforts. Now, at their concerts, audiences have the opportunity to hear these multi-talented, multi-instrumentalists play as an ensemble as well as in solo and duo performances. Hence, the Revue.
This line-up expands the eclectic repertoires of both bands. Expect to hear old-time blues, and gospel, along with a dose of Grateful Dead. Expect music from American, Celtic and Latino traditions. Expect the material to be a mix of original, historic and contemporary sources. Expect the unexpected!
The Salt River Revue features Vicky Arthur (bass, guitar, percussion and vocals), Mary Barron (fiddle, mandolin and vocals), Marcos Levy (piano, guitar, mandolin, bass and vocals), Paul Sgalia (mandolin, guitar, bass and vocals), and Steve Spensley (standard & slide guitars, fiddle and vocals).
