The Brand-Aid Fund continues to receive some very generous donations. Many thanks to the staff at Neshobe School who made a donation in honor of Principal Judi Pulsifer during the holidays. Also thanks to OVUHS graduate Sarah Stanley, a student at Clark University, who held a dance fundraiser at her school for the Fund. Other donations have come in and the Fund is now ready to make a second round of disbursements to the hardest hit businesses who are making payments on Irene-related loans and paying unexpected bills. As long as donations keep being made, we will continue to disburse funds. Donate Here

FROM BRANDON POLICE CHIEF, CHRIS BRICKELL:

I am looking for interested parties who have a desire to take a role in addressing some of the issues that affect our community. The town of Brandon has a program called "BRAVO" which stands for Brandon's Restorative Action for Victims and Offenders. This program is designed to increase citizen involvement in a proactive community outreach program that brings resolution to community, group, and individual conflicts.

These resolutions are brought about through mediation, dialogue, and citizen involvement. The BRAVO program is a self sufficient group of individuals who meet on a regular basis and receive training from the Department of Corrections in conflict resolution.

BRAVO typically works with low level offenders and has cases referred to them by the Brandon Police Department. BRAVO is responsible for mediation and reparations that promote good citizenship and positive behavior of all citizens.

In the interest of the success of the BRAVO program, I am looking for participants from the educational, religious, and business sectors of our communities to be a part of a program that directly impacts the quality of life for you and your family as a member of the Brandon Community.

I will be coordinating a BRAVO training with the Department of Corrections in the near future and am looking for individuals who feel they can donate their time and expertise to this valuable program. We can all point to problems we see in the community and I would prefer we have success stories we can point to as well.

If you have an interest in learning more about the BRAVO program, please contact me directly at the Brandon Police Department at 247-0222 or via e-mail at cbrickel@dps.state.vt.us

Thank you for contemplating service to your community.

Christopher Brickell, Chief of Police

Brandon Music

What's happening at BRANDON MUSIC? Well, quite a lot...

Brandon Music is embarking on a series of benefit concerts to help fund the ongoing work of establishing the new Compass Music and Arts Center in Park Village. We are in the very early stages of this massive effort, but are excited about the enthusiasm and support we are seeing on the part of the community. Already we have commitments from some fine groups to perform in the Music Café. Starting next month, we have the lovely vocal renderings of Olivia Gawet, accompanied by Rip Jackson, on February 19 as part of the Art in the Snow weekend. We're excited about the group "Zephyr" coming on St. Patrick's Day in March; and it looks like the very popular Jonathan Lorentz and friends will be gracing us with their presence in early May. The fantastic jazz pianist, Lenore Raphael, otherwise known as Swinging Fox, is unable to schedule a concert at this time, but has donated signed copies of her CD towards fund-raising efforts.

The Brandon Music Café offers a varied luncheon menu of soup, salads, main dishes and sandwiches, as well as a fine selection of Taylor's teas and freshly brewed coffee. The Steak and Ale Pie is a favorite of our customers. And if you haven't tried one of our scrumptious desserts, it's high time you did! Our current showing of Ruth Hamilton's fine art is in our gallery until the end of February; and the gift shop is always open during regular business hours. We have gift certificates, as well, for that person who has everything. And the phonograph room is a fabulous trip back in time, full of vintage 'talking machines' from 1900 to 1950.

BRANDON ROTARY ICE OUTBrandon VT

Guess the date and time the flag sinks on Belden's Pond (Rt 7 north of town). Look for the snowman who will stop the clock when the flag goes down. Winner's share is 50% of entry fees with the balance going to Rotary to support Rotary projects locally and internationally. $1 per entry or 6 for $5. Enter as often as you wish. Predict the date, hour and minute, am or pm, that the flag will sink. Winner is the one closest to the actual time the flag sinks, ties share the prize. Click for an entry form.

The DUNMORE DIP

The Dunmore Dip helps fund  eradicating the milfoil in Lake Dunmore and Fern Lake. The fun part is trying to predict when the ice on Lake Dunmore will melt, causing the red flag to tip and fall into the water. Lord Dunmore stops his clock when the flag goes down. That is the "official" Dunmore Dip time. Whoever has the closest entry to the DATE and TIME the clock stops WINS! Lord Dunmore walks out on Brush's Point around March 1 and is visible from Route 53, just south of Camp Keewaydin. Visit the web site http://www.ldfla.com/other/dunmore-dip.html to see dates going back to 1997. Donation is only $1 per guess. Or call John Ebert at 802-352-9392.  Entries MUST BE postmarked by MARCH 15, 2012.
