BRANDON'S ANNUAL YARD SALE DAY:
GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY Brandon's annual Yard Sale Day is a great event which helps recycle and reuse. With dozens of yard sales registered on the official map and scores more set up around town, Brandon will be a busy place on Saturday, August 6. Although most sales will not start until 9:00 am, the official map will be available starting at 7:00 a.m. on-line at www.brandon.org and at the Visitor Center at the historic Stephen A Douglas Birthplace, located next
to the church at the corner of Routes 7 and 73 West. Pick up a map and follow the sales. Downtown Brandon will be a busy place so make plans to head out to sales on the side streets and back roads. Enjoy the views and find the bargains that others are missing. Maps will not be available until August 6. Sales will be held rain or shine. |

AUCTION MISHAP
After the Great Brandon Auction ended and we were packing and cleaning up, we had a little mishap. While our backs were turned, someone took some items from the street that had been bought and paid for by a customer. While there were some items in a "free" pile, someone drove off with 8 matching outdoor chairs (yellow and white webbing). There were some small items on the nearby table which were taken also. If you or someone you know inadvertently took these items, we would appreciate if you would let us know. The buyer is eager to have them returned.

23rd GREAT BRANDON AUCTION WAS HUGE SUCCESS
From sun-up to sun-down (and all the sun in-between) on Tuesday, July 19, Brandon was a-glow with donors, volunteers, bidders and buyers at the 23rd Great Brandon Auction. Auctioneer Barb Watters sold just about everything we had from a week's stay in a cabin on Lake Dunmore to a box lot full of puzzles and games for the rainy day at the cabin! Thanks so much to the team of volunteer

s, donors, bidders and buyers who made the auction a huge success. The grand total is still being added up but it looks as if the auction will realize a net profit of about $7000. With more than 200 bidders and thousands of items to be sold, Auctioneer Barb Watters wasted no time, even without a microphone for the first 45 minutes due to the traffic accident that toppled a nearby power pole. Proceeds from the auction support the many activities and programs of the Brandon Area Chamber of Commerce including the Brandon Museum at the Stephen A. Douglas Birthplace. We thank everyone who helped with the success including volunteers from as far away as Mexico and campers from Camp Betsy Cox in Pittsford. There are way too many people who helped to name everyone but you know who you are. But most importantly, we couldn't do it without the team behind the scenes - Bernie Carr, Joel Mondlak, and Auctioneer Barb Watters.

50/50 Raffle Winner Diane Foley became an Auctioneer for the next item bringing in $100 for a $25 gift certificate. Way to go Diane!

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN ACTION!
"The success of the Brandon Town Players at the Town Hall recently is a prime example of economic development in action for downtown Brandon. Not only did it bring over 600 people in to town to see the play; - many of those people ate at our restaurants and visited our shops. The later was especially noted for the Sunday afternoon matinee when people were seen walking abut town before and after the performance. For twelve weeks prior to the performances more than 30 cast members came to town twice a week to rehearse and likewise enhanced the local economy.
Concerts, silent movies, art shows and more have taken place at the Town Hall. People have expressed interest in renting the Hall for a wedding or other large event, but were turned off by the lack of adequate restroom facilities. The Friends of the Brandon Town Hall have raised $95,000 toward providing new restrooms, but at least another $25,000 is needed to begin this project.
More than 90 plates have been purchased for the "150 Dollars for 150 years" campaign with an additional $100 per donor match to represent the Brandon's 250th Anniversary. They need another 60 to meet their goal of 150 plates this summer. http://www.BrandonTownHall.org
The plaque project will represent a snapshot of the Brandon community on its 250th anniversary. What a wonderful way to show our grandchildren who was in Brandon in the year 2011.
If $150 is too much for your wallet consider sharing the purchase of a plate for the plaque with a business, neighbor or friend. You each can have a line on the plaque. There also are limited edition lapel pins of the town hall available for $5.00, with proceeds to benefit the restoration (available at Carr's and the Inside Scoop). Every dollar helps. Please consider this and help make the Town Hall a better place the entire town will benefit from."
