Fall 2008
Hello Friends, Associates and Fellow Art Enthusiasts,

Welcome to the second issue of our new quarterly newsletter, highlighting the recent news and activities from the fine art studio of Charles Young Walls.

The long hot days of summer are about over and we're looking forward to the cool and crisp autumn days ahead. Charles' summer months have been full of exhibitions and travel, capped off with a scholarship to the historic National Academy in New York! We hope you enjoy the highlights included below. We welcome your comments and suggestions, and would love to hear from you.

Thank you for your support,
   Heather Walls
National Academy School of Fine Art
Charles at Peter Cox workshopScholarship to Attend Master Class
Over the summer Charles was awarded a scholarship to attend a two-week master class with figurative artist Peter Cox at the National Academy in New York!

Charles has had the opportunity to study in-depth with Peter several times over the years. This particular master class concentrated on multi-figure compositions and their inherent narrative powers. We were very excited for Charles to have this opportunity.

Peter Cox
Peter Cox has been described as "...maybe the best figurative artist now working in New York." He has twice won the gold medal at the National Arts Club and has taught at various prestigious art schools in and around New York since the mid-eighties.

The pictures included here were taken in October 2006 and used in a feature article about Peter Cox published in the Spring 2007 issue of American Artist Workshop magazine.

Charles' beautiful still-life painting "Gold Elephant" was awarded The President's Award at the Salmagundi Club's 31st Annual Juried Painting and Sculpture Exhibition for Non-Members in New York City. The exhibit hung for most of July at their gallery on Fifth Avenue. The Salmagundi Club is a 130 year old historic institution of art in New York and continues to serve as a center for fine artists from New York City and around the country.

The exquisite painting "Lavender Lace" was awarded the Kerry Aube' Lingle Memorial Sunflower Award at the Atlanta Fine Arts League's Second National Juried Exhibition. This was the first presentation of this very special award honoring the memory of the daughter of AFAL charter member Pat Aube' Gray. This Exhibition was on display in Roswell, Georgia during the months of August and September.

Painting - Design and Technique
Oil Painting Class photoOngoing Oil Painting Classes in Atlanta
There's been a whole lot of art learning going on recently in Buckhead at The Art School at Binders!

Charles' classes there have been a tremendous success. They are becoming very popular and are filling up with serious artists intent to learn and excited by the process. Tuesdays have the place just humming with art energy.

Serious art classes that impart true working knowledge are hard to find this far from New York - don't pass up this opportunity. Charles' aim is to teach the fundamental principles of design and technique, providing participants with a good solid core of knowledge on which to build their own artistic vision.
