Greetings!

Why am I so Tired?
5 Reasons Why You Might Feel So Sluggish

sleepy lady in bed1. What You Eat: Don't try for a quick-fix spurt of energy from caffeine and sugar; it will only leave you more fatigued as your blood sugar levels fluctuate wildly. Instead, go for a balanced, healthy diet replete with fruits, vegetables, and lean protein. Most people feel like they're less tired if they eat a healthy diet. Eating healthy also means you'll carry less weight, and obesity is a big contributor to fatigue.
2. How Much You Exercise: The best prescription for ordinary, garden-variety tiredness is regular, vigorous exercise. Complete your exercise at least three hours before bedtime.
3. Vitamin Deficiencies: Deficiencies in Key Nutrients, such as potassium can cause fatigue.  This is easily checked with blood testing.
4. Depression: If your feelings of exhaustion are accompanied by sadness and loss of appetite, and you just can't take any pleasure in things you once enjoyed, you may be experiencing depression.
5. Obstructive sleep apnea: If you never feel rested, ask the person you sleep with if you're bothering them with your snoring. If they say yes, look into testing at a sleep lab. Some other symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea include waking up each morning feeling unrefreshed and having morning headaches.

"Unlocking the Full Potential
of Your Child's Brain"

AD/HD, autism, and related spectrum disorders have been classically regarded as a deficiency in a particular brain messenger (neurotransmitter) termed dopamine.  Mainstream treatments focus on stabilizing this dopamine system and addressing behavioral irregularities.  While these treatments have a place and all are helpful, none focus on the asymmetries in brain function related to the frontal lobe, thalamus, and cerebellum.
Learning/behavioral disorders such as AD/HD and autism are physical, neurological conditions involving dysfunction of brain.  Dysfunction does not imply damage or disease, it indicates that certain pools of cells in your brain are under-functioning and are not as active as they should be.  Specifically, in children with AD/HD and autism there exists an electrical imbalance in brain stimulation and activity between the right and left hemisphere.  The scientific term hyper kidsfor this phenomenon is Functional Disconnection Syndrome.  The result is a global decrease in brain activity primarily affecting the right hemisphere.  This profoundly affects executive functions performed by the frontal lobe region of the right hemisphere such as cognition, motivation, mental focus, concentration, and body movements.  The symptoms can range from impulsivity and hyper-activity to emotional outbursts and excessive rough play.  Evidence of inappropriate social graces can alienate classmates causing feelings of low self-esteem.  As a result of the poor concentration and mental focus, learning becomes a challenge.
Understanding functions of the right hemisphere allows for an extrapolation of what occurs when there is an imbalance in brain function.  The right hemisphere is associated with stopping movement and filtering thought, controlling gross motor/postural brain rightnleftmovements utilizing the trunk, social learning, creativity, responding to new concepts, and processing low frequency light.  The results of decreased right hemisphere function can be seen in the majority of children with spectrum disorders such as AD/HD and autism which include: preference for routine and rituals, difficulty engaging in lengthy conversation, poor social skills, tendency to fidget, tantrum episodes, clumsiness, and challenges with depth perception.
Treatment options include Hemispheric Integration Therapy (H.I.T.).  This therapy is centered around maximizing the child's brain function, focusing on the specific under-stimulated area of the brain and utilizes sensory/motor modalities.  Careful observation is taken not to exceed the stamina of the cells involved, not unlike the feeling of soreness after "overdoing it" at the fitness club.  Therefore, the therapies are given at a specific intensity and frequency to match those stamina levels.  Examples include hemisphere appropriate light and sound stimulation, tactile stimulation, olfactory (smell) stimulation, cross crawl mechanisms, specific eye movements, vestibular (inner ear) rehabilitation utilizing spins and abrupt changes of head positions, auditory (sound) stimulation, chiropractic adjustments on the left side, and balance activities.

What is the Unlimited Potential Program?

The Unlimited Potential Program is a unique, brain-based approach for enhancing neuro-cognitive function and addressing learning/behavioral disorders such as AD/HD, autism, Asperger's, dyslexia, Tourettes, and auditory processing problems. This program is also highly beneficial for parents and children seeking to improve brain-based learning strategies at home or in the classroom. The program seeks to promote permanent neurological changes through the neurological principle of plasticity, which states that the brain can change according to the environmental influences surrounding it.

After a comprehensive neurological examination, academic achievement test (WIATII), and behavioral questionnaire (CBCL) a better understanding of the dysfunctional brain regions is ascertained. An exclusive customized treatment plan is then followed leading the way to permanent neurological change.

Why Weight?Diets Don't Work

You can't turn on the TV, drive down the road or go to a party without being confronted with America's hottest obsession: weight. Diets are a billion-dollar industry; companies spend millions and millions luring you to try the latest diet (low carb, high protein, low fat, no fat, you name it) with promises that this will (finally!) be the solution-your shortcut to a thinner body. Advertising efforts also deeply affect our children, who develop distorted body images and are often on diets as early as nine or 10 years of age.

Our culture touts diet pills, celebrity workouts, convenience foods and trendy diets to help us achieve our desired weight, but these quick-fix solutions have backfired. America's populace has reached its highest weight in history. About half of Americans are overweight; one-third are obese. Diets steer us away from our common sense and dip deeply into our pocketbooks while eliciting few, if any, lasting results. Why?

·    Diets don't work because each person is unique, with different needs based on gender, age, ancestry and lifestyle; how could one diet be right for everyone?
·    Diets don't work because they are extreme solutions. As in physics, if a pendulum swings to one extreme, it has to swing equally to the other. A diet might work for a short amount of time, but research shows that almost all diets result in a 10-pound gain once off the diet.
·    Diets don't work because they are too restrictive. People who fail on diet plans are not flawed or weak. Diets by nature require discipline and restriction at levels that are unsustainable by a healthy human body.
·    Most people are disconnected from why they gain weight and see diet as the only culprit. For example, ignoring or discounting emotions is often the first thing to cause weight imbalances.

In our fast-paced world, we have lost sight of many aspects of life that truly nourish and balance our bodies, such as slowing down, eating a home-cooked meal and spending quality time with loving people. Eating consciously and making simple lifestyle changes will create positive results and release you from the endless cycle of dieting.

Given half a chance, your body will balance out by itself, but this is only possible by getting out of the diet mentality and listening to what you truly need. Imagine taking all of the outward energy you expend on diets, fads and gimmicks and turning it inward, so that you can listen to your heart and inner wisdom. There is no such thing as a quick fix; you already have everything you need within you. With careful thought and loving reflection, you can feed yourself in a nourishing way. Working with your body rather than against it will bring you increased energy, stabilized weight and sustainable health.
