Cat-Camel Exercise Pos 2
Red yeast rice usage has been documented as far back as 800 A.D. in China.  It was said to invigorate the body, aid in digestion and remove "blood blockages".

Thorne Choleast & Niasafe Supplement

SUPPLEMENT SPOTLIGHT
Do you want to lower your cholesterol naturally?  Now you can-with Choleast and Niasafe.  Elevated blood cholesterol is one of several risk factors for heart disease.  Although conventional prescription medications are often effective at lowering cholesterol, the potential for adverse effects involving major organs causes many patients to seek alternatives.  The first step in cholesterol management should involve dietary and lifestyle changes, including a diet low in saturated fat and regular exercise.  As additional supplementation, several nutrients and botanicals can be used to aid in regulating cholesterol. Choleast is a natural alternative to prescription drugs, containing red yeast rice, which has been found to significantly benefit blood cholesterol levels.  Niasafe is a safer alternative to Niacin (Vitamin B3) therapy used in the treatment of heart conditions-it is virtually free of the side effects associated with traditional Niacin therapy.  Contact our office for more information about these great products.

BRAIN FOOD RECIPE
July is National Blueberry Month!  What better way to celebrate the best "pound-for-pound" brain food than with this delicious muffin recipe:

BANANA BLUEBERRY MUFFIN RECIPE
2 cups white whole-wheat flour
2 teaspoons aluminum-free baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup toasted walnuts, chopped
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
3/4 cup natural cane sugar
2 large organic eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup plain yogurt
1 cup mashed overripe bananas (about 2 bananas)
1 cup fresh blueberries (toss in a bit of flour to keep them from sinking while baking)

Heat oven to 375 and line 12 muffin cups with paper liners.
Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and 3/4 cup of the walnuts in a bowl and whisk to combine.
In a separate bowl using a mixer, cream butter until light and fluffy. Beat in sugar and eggs, one at a time. Stir in vanilla, yogurt and mashed bananas, then gently mix in dry ingredients; over mixing will result in tough muffins. Fold in the blueberries.
Spoon batter into prepared muffin tin (an ice-cream scoop works well here), top with remaining 1/4 cup walnuts, bake until golden, about 25 minutes. Fill cups two-thirds full for regular muffins or to brim for a big-topped version. Sprinkle with a bit of sugar here for a nice bit of sweet crusted goodness. Cool for a couple minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Makes a dozen muffins.

BRAIN EXERCISE OF THE MONTH
Utilize your non-dominant hand when performing activities of daily living such as combing your hair, brushing your teeth, dialing phone numbers, and using utensils.  This type of exercise promotes the formation of new and more efficient connections in the brain.
CORE EXERCISE TIPS

Cat-Camel: An effective entry-level exercise which helps to open the spaces where the nerves exit the spine.

Position yourself on all fours with hands directly beneath your shoulders and knees directly beneath your hips. Arch your back like a cat, then transition to camel position.

Cat-Camel Exercise Pos 1  Cat-Camel Exercise Pos 2

The Cat-Camel is intended as a motion exercise-not a stretch-so the emphasis is on motion rather than "pushing" at the end ranges of flexion and extension. 5-8 cycles have shown to be sufficient to reduce most frictional stresses.
