LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
The Holidays are upon us, and, although I may not be fully prepared for all the holiday celebrations, I am blessed with much to be thankful for, and resolved never to take any of it for granted:
- A roof over my head, food in my stomach and access to health care.
- A loving, supportive family, each of whose members do what they can to help the others succeed.
- Friends who would do anything for me, and for whom I would do anything (though we have an unwritten agreement not to challenge the outer limits of our mutual pledge.)
- A good job and a bright, engaged, passionate group of colleagues at work who share a common commitment to the children and families in our community who depend upon the quality services provided by our partner agencies.
- A generous community, anxious to help those in need.
Unfortunately, we have many more in need now than we have had in the recent past. The market forces and political in-fighting seem to have made this a particularly difficult "hard time" to get behind us. And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that more people in need means a greater demand for services, and a greater cost to provide those services.
Our Butler County United Way campaign will end in February, and so far, we are running about even with last year's campaign, to date. If your company has not yet run a workplace campaign, we hope you will, and that you will do all you can to make it successful. If you have already made a pledge for the upcoming year, I hope you will consider supplementing it with an additional one-time gift to help us meet the high need for services. Just call the office at 513-863-0800 and we'll be happy to walk you through the process.
In the meantime, have a Blessed Holiday Season!
Bruce

NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY DAY LUNCHEON
Philanthropists from throughout Butler County gathered at the Pendleton Art Center on Friday, November 18th, to celebrate giving.
At the Butler County National Philanthropy Day luncheon, AK Steel Corp. Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer James Wainscott quoted the Bible in saying, "To whom much is given, much is requested," during his keynote remarks. Each member of the community has a unique set of skills that can be used for philanthropy, Wainscott said. "I like to believe all of us share a common motivation for giving back," he said.
Butler County United Way was one of many organizations who honored just a few of our many wonderful and supportive donors.
Honored at the luncheon were: Kathy Carmack, Chris and Stephanie Worrell, Steve and Joan Lippert, Shawn Hamilton and Enid Soto, Logan and Donna Stone, and Dave Yeager.
We're grateful for all the support we receive throughout the year from all of our thoughtful donors.
