Justin Lookadoo
Comes to Butler County
The Women's Leadership Council is teaming up with author and national speaker Justin Lookadoo to create a truly unique and insightful day for Butler County Youth.
On February 5th, 2011, Butler County 5th-12th graders are invited to spend half of a day at Skatetown USA to have fun and learn about what it means to show RESPECT to yourself and others. On February 5th, National motivational speaker Justin Lookadoo will talk to 5th-8th graders in the morning about Choices That Rock: The Truth About Drugs. In the afternoon, he'll talk to the 9th-12th graders about the kind of character it takes to be Dateable. Lookadoo, who has worked as a Crime Prevention Specialist in Texas, helped decrease the juvenile referral rate to 61% lower than expected in 2000. With his ability to connect with youth and not just speak at them, Justin Lookadoo will entertain and encourage students to make healthy life choices. Joining Lookadoo in both the morning and afternoon sessions will be Kathy Rambo, a Women's Leadership Council member and National Etiquette Presenter, who will help students learn the best way to introduce themselves to new people as well as the right way to set and navigate place settings for meals. Thanks in part for Sponsorship from First Financial Bank.

Did you have a New Year's resolution to become more involved in your community and give back?
Butler County United Way has a resource to help you do just that! One of the most important resources that you can contribute to the community is your time, talent, and strength. Many organizations and social service agencies rely on members of the community to help better the lives of those in need.
There are hundreds of organizations and community members in Butler County that need your help. To make it easier for you to find opportunities to serve, Butler County United Way's web site hosts the Volunteer Connection at www.bc-unitedway.org. This on-line tool will help guide you and connect you to over 150 volunteer projects at over 60 agencies and organizations that are available in Butler County. Examples of opportunities include, but are not limited to working in food pantries, serving on leadership boards, being a victim advocate for rape victims, and cleaning the Great Miami River.
Search for opportunities using the "Opportunity Search" option to locate opportunities based on your specific interests; or use the "Agency Search" option to search for volunteer opportunities to find a list of all the agencies seeking assistance.
Butler County United Way's mission is to connect resources to important community needs. One volunteer coordinator from one of the agencies wrote about the volunteer for an event, "Thank you so much for making this connection for us. This Volunteer was a God-send. The kids loved her, and she enthusiastically embraced her volunteer role. She also eagerly sought to understand the children's conditions so that she could better serve them." We hope you will find this searching tool to be helpful and, more importantly, that you will use it to create mutually satisfying relationships with people who "need a helping hand." | |
