NYIT Dateline: Oworobong, Ghana
Student engineers are using their education and skills to make a better world for the less fortunate. During the spring semester, NYIT established a student chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB), a non-profit humanitarian organization that partners with communities worldwide on interdisciplinary sustainable projects. In its first major initiative, junior mechanical engineering students Christoper Jewth (pictured) and Divyesh Patel, EWB's president and vice president, respectively, accompanied chapter advisor Professor Sarah Meyland last month on a week-long fact-finding mission to Oworobong, Ghana, a remote village that does not have any running water or electric service. The group evaluated options for bringing in potable water to the local health clinic. The work being conducted in Oworobong is supported by in-house grants awarded to NYIT's School of Engineering and Computing Sciences and the Center for Global Health. |

Watch your mailbox for the Summer 2010 issue of NYIT Magazine. The issue features alumnae who are entrepreneurs and leaders in their respective fields, as well as faculty, staff, and graduates who serve on the front line of the global communications industry. Also, read about Bob Hirschfield, who has shaped the hearts, minds, and lineups of NYIT's baseball team for more than 30 years, and some headliners and legends who recently visited our campuses.
Best regards, Julie Darcy Assistant Director of Alumni Relations
