How to save time and money with dispensation
We wrote to you about P11d returns and the importance of applying for a notice of dispensation from HMRC. Take a look at the HMRC guidelines if you like, or read our full article here, but the important thing to remember is that dispensation will save you time and money because you can claim the rates even if you don't spend all of the allowance, as you don't even have to submit receipts. One warning, however, one-man band companies must be careful in relation to expense verification process. Sure DNS can always help you, so contact your account manager to discuss this further. |
Flat Rate Allowance for foreign travel expenses
We told you about claiming foreign travel expenses without receipts and urged you to take advantage of this lovely tax loophole. You can claim all your foreign travel expenses as per daily rate allowance. you have choice. Either you claim actual expenses or daily allowances which in most circumstances are quite higher than actual expenses. You can see the benchmark scale rates if you go to the article. |
How to avoid tax penalties
This is very important, go to the link now to see what is at stake. Most importantly, excuses such as "I didn't realise" do not wash with HMRC because ignorance is zero defense against the law. First we suggest you read our easy to understand slide-show, and then ring your account manager to implement because tax in all its shapes and forms is complex, but at DNS we have all the knowledge, expertise and rigour to ensure you don't fall foul of tax penalties , providing you:
- Always inform us of any changes in your circumstances
- Always send us any correspondence from HMRC
- Never ignore correspondence from HMRC
- Always keep and record assets, income, expenditure, expenses- see above, dispensation can help you avoid costly admin involved with keeping expenses receipts.

Pension and ISAs
We wrote to you about the new pension legislation that slashed the tax relief on pensions: from April 2011 the maximum amount you can pay into your pension tax free is £50,000 but the good news is that if the in the previous 3 years - providing you were already part of existing pension plan - you didn't pay in full the current allowance, you can top-up to the current maximum amount retrospectively.
To help this along a bit, we suggest you pay the maximum amount into an ISA (£10,200) as well. DNS are experts at tax planning, and now is the time to talk to your account manager about taking a dividend payment instead of a bonus, or taking a bond ; discuss the timing of capital gains disposals , and many more ways to make the most of your hard earned cash. Contact your account manger today and discuss all the ways that you can take advantage of tax-free savings, investments, pensions and benefits.
