Welcome to the post-budget, bi-monthly DNS newsletter. On a positive note, I am happy that the global recession has had some indirect advantages, seen in the Treasury's soft-approach Budget. But it wasn't sincere; it was a well-timed, face-saving ploy by a government that doesn't want to experience a huge media backlash.
Still, government undoubtedly has plans up its sleeve for big increases and surprises in the future, one of which seems to have surfaced. In my last newsletter I brought your attention to a potentially alarming situation regarding Question 6 of the Self Assessment Tax Return: "Do you receive income from a Service Company?" None of us paid it much attention last year but this year is a different matter; last year we ticked "No", but last year the Revenue had not made us fully aware what they meant by a "Service Company". This year they have made it very clear. The whole idea is to collate data on owner-managed companies, signalling some strong, draconian legislation for the future. Childcare Vouchers can save £4K
Many owner-managed companies currently paying childcare costs can save themselves up to £4,000 by registering for the government's Childcare Voucher scheme. DNS announced several discount schemes: a discount for online accounting - save up to a 10% - our referrals discount and, most important of all, our three-tiered loyalty discount to acknowledge the loyalty of our most valued customers. Tax Return Penalties
Recently we have seen lot of our clients getting Penalty for non submission of Self Assessment Tax Returns for year ending 05th April 2008. Even though returns have been submitted and Inland Revenue online system showing return submitted these have been issued in error.
So if you have received the penalty notice please do not panic and forward ths notice to us and we will deal with the notice.
Budget Highlights
This budget offered some welcome relief, such as an extension of the Business Payment Support Service, Stamp Duty relief on properties up to £175,000 extended till December 2009, and Increase in ISA Limits. You can find the full details on the link above.
