Grad Finale On the Green!
Grad Finale - LhasangThis exciting new event was held on Friday, May 11th, the day before Commencement, from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.  All graduating students and their families, and Naropa staff, faculty and alumni were invited to this gathering, which included a short, meaningful ritual to support these students in this key transition. Over 20 wonderful alumni volunteers joined us for this event, to personally welcome our newest alumni to the alumni community!   

Grad Finale Procession Kevin VaughtGraduating student, Kevin Vaught (photo on the right), shared a powerful, meaningful song, and current student, Mason Brown, played guitar, and sang, before and after the program, with amazing skill and a lilting, beautiful voice - we are so lucky to have such talent within our student and alumni community!

Commencement
David OrrCommencement was held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Macky Auditorium, with keynote address by David Orr, an environmental studies professor, scholar, speaker, author and visionary.  

We welcome 339 NEW alumni to our community!

United Naropa recognizes the outstanding contributions of a faculty member each academic year. The recipient of this year's Faculty of Excellence award, as voted by the students of Naropa University, is UGUR KOCATASKIN from the Graduate School of Psychology. Ugur is an alumnus, as well as a faculty member. Congratulations, Ugur!

 

Graduating student speakers, Lillian Myers and Pouria Montazeri were moving, eloquent and creative in their addresses to their fellow graduating students. Lillian ended her lively, creative address with "rock on with your basically good selves!"

Summer Writing Program
Summer Writing Program Logo for 2012Naropa's Summer Writing Program is open for registration and has another powerful line-up of classes, writers, poets, teachers. The theme this year is "Re-inhabit language" and the Summer Writing Program runs from June 11 through July 8th.

As an Naropa University alum, you are invited to attend the third annual All Colorado Alumni Career Fair.  Fourteen Colorado colleges and universities from around the state, and the University of Wyoming, have collaborated to organize this exciting event, exclusively for alumni from participating schools.  This is the only event of its kind in Colorado with a goal of connecting alumni with employers.

GOOD NEWS from our ALUMNI!
 "Most Inspiring Individual"
Alumna Carmen Cool was recently named the the "Most Inspiring Individual" in Boulder last month!  Boulder Magazine presented the Boulder County REAL Awards: "Recognizing Everything About Local".  Carmen is the founder and director of the Boulder Body Youth Alliance, an organization that supports teens in supporting others in healthy eating.  BBYA Facebook page

"Non-profit: Community At Large" Award 
Also, Community Cycles was recognized for "Non-profit: Community At Large" and Community Cycles is non-profit bike collective that accepts old used bikes in Boulder and uses them to teach bicycle mechanics,  with alumnus Rich Points, as a founder, and current executive director.

"NEA Grant Awarded!"
Alumna Kirsten Wilson is the creator of an exciting collaborative project called
an arts-based community conversation project which aims to inspire people to learn about Boulder's untold history, talk about the present, and take action to create a better future. The theater programs for One Action, One Boulder received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for $40,000!  But to get the full funds the grant must be matched.

LOHAS Forum

Annual LOHAS Forum
June 12-14th 2012, Boulder CO

The LOHAS Forum brings together +500 business executives to network and learn about the opportunities the LOHAS marketplace has to offer and how best to target the LOHAS consumer.

LOHAS logoThe LOHAS Forum provides a cross section of executives like no other, and is known for fantastic networking with decision makers who are interested in LOHAS business (Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability). Countless deals and successful relationships have manifested as a direct result of participating in the LOHAS Forum.

The LOHAS Forum has sold out the last 3 years. Last year we had over 550 executive attendees and 360 companies represented. Over 40% are CEO's, presidents and business owners. We strive to provide a welcoming atmosphere of inspiration and dialogue that will educate and motivate change.

Please note that for students and alumni: there is a community pass available. This is a $99 per day pass to attend our morning sessions at the Boulder Theater (8:30-12pm) and our exhibit space in the afternoon (1-5pm). A great way to experience the event at a low cost.

for a $25,000 Award

The Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Award Advisory Committee is seeking nominations for the 2012 Beckman Award, which recognizes teachers who have inspired their former students to make a difference in their communities. Each recipient will receive a $25,000 one-time cash award. Nominations must be postmarked by May 31, 2012. Visit the website for more information and to submit a nomination.
