Summer 2009
Greetings!

Warm greetings from Boulder, CO!

With your involvement and support, we will meet Naropa as it is and change it for the better.

We can't do that without being in relationship with all of you. We welcome your dialogue and involvement as we share the awesome responsibility of stewarding Naropa University through its next phase on its path.

In this alumni e-newsletter, we invite you to
  • catch up on Naropa news and highlights,

  • meet some Naropa alumni and find yourself inspired,

  • share your own good news as well as update your contact information,

  • check out the Naropa University and alumni events, as well as the NEW Alumni Workshop Series this fall,

  • and be a part of the "Each One, Reach One" grassroots effort to reconnect with more alumni:  at the bottom of this e-newsletter, with a click or two, share this e-newsletter with Naropa friends that may be out of the loop, and re-connect them back to Naropa!
We hope you will stay in touch, let us know what you are doing now, and share with us how your Naropa education inspired you to the role you now play in meeting your world as it is...and changing it for the better.

Sincerely,

  • The Summer Writing Program was a great success with over 250 students and faculty converging on Naropa's Arapahoe Campus for what has become known as Camp Kerouac. Many Naropa alums returned as students and we even had three alums teaching this year - Junior Burke, Eleni Sikelianos, and Laird Hunt. Find out more about the program at the Naropa website  or Facebook.
  • Did you know that Naropa University has a thoughtful and intentional plan to "Deliver Distinction with Excellence"?  We invite you to peruse Naropa's Strategic Plan.
  • A couple of outstanding Naropa faculty are retiring: We bid Reggie Ray and Bobbie Louise Hawkins a fond farewell, and know that they will stay connected to the Naropa community!  Dr. Reggie Ray was one of Reggie Raythe co-founders of the Buddhist Studies Department at Naropa University (later renamed the Department of Religious Studies) and recently founded the Dharma Ocean Foundation in Crestone, Colorado.  Vice President Stuart Sigman indicates that he is exploring ways for Reggie to remain connected to Naropa, possibly through on-line and other teaching.Bobbie Louise Hawkins  Bobbie Louise Hawkins is a fiction writer, monologist, performer and poet. Her most recent book is Bijou (Farfalla/ McMillan & Parrish, 2005). She has published more than ten books of fiction. She teaches fiction writing workshops and courses in literary studies.
