Support our troops logo

Together with Wachovia, we are supporting our soldiers on June 1st, who will be deploying. Starting at 8am at the Christiansburg Armory, Wachovia volunteers will be putting together care packages for the soldiers to take with them overseas. Country Kitchen will be catering breakfast from 9-10am. At 10am the soldiers get into formation, then get on the buses at 10:30 a.m. We would like for everyone to join us and Wachovia in helping support our troops!

About Virginia Energy Sense

Virginia Energy Sense is the Commonwealth's state-wide consumer education and outreach program under the guidance of the State Corporation Commission (SCC). The program encourages electric energy efficiency and conservation in Virginia households, businesses and institutions. The General Assembly directed the SCC to develop and implement an energy consumer education program for retail customers to provide information regarding energy use, production, conservation and energy efficiency. The Virginia Energy Sense campaign was created to meet that goal.

Please visit our website for tips, info on federal, state, local and utility-provided energy incentives, and other ways to track your energy use. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or input.

Tips for Connecting at an Expo by Christine Wilkes Kennedy

  1. Be curious-  Go with the intent of truly connecting with those you come in contact with.   Take lots of business cards and consider the great questions compiled below from several networking sources.
  2. Be engaging-  Don't do the "Business as Usual" technique.  Go into the trade show environment seeking to help those you meet.  What can you find out in 2-3 minutes that would help you determine what they need to be successful? How can you help?
  3. Be inviting-  Are you open to sharing about you?  Your business?  How do you know?   What can you say/do to ensure that others see you as open to connecting?
  4. Be intentional....About follow up.  Don't just throw away the cards of the folks you meet.   Write key notes on the back of their cards and put info into your Outlook/contact management system that will help you follow-up.  Schedule a follow-up email.  Send them some resources to help them.  A great book that would be of interest....a resource for their child, etc.   Did you connect with them enough to find out what they need?

New to the 2011 Expo- Join Virginia Tech Career Services, Manpower & BAE Systems to find out what jobs are available & sign up for job placement services on the spot!
