At the beginning of this year in this very newsletter I said, "you can't win if you don't play the game". Like many others, I rolled up my sleeves and decided to tackle the recession head on. We did our best to figure out the different rule books. Clinical and precise in our approach, it has resulted in our best year to date. But, did we lose the joy?
The best results in the world can't change the fact that inherently, I dislike "game playing", as is the case in many a personal and professional environment. I dislike the general manipulation and the behind the scenes maneuvering that can happen. In many ways, professionally (and even personally), it results in people being dishonest and not being the best that they can be. That's a tough world to submerge oneself in.
All of that being said, when I think of a person's performance and way of operating it changes the entire context of the word for me. Their "game", their skill is what brings most joy in a situation. Watching someone fully embrace their true potential and do it from a place of joy and commitment as opposed to "for the reward" is an incredible thing to participate in.
As we all continue to face challenges and be redefined I encourage all of you (clients, event partners and friends) to STEP UP YOUR GAME. Don't be afraid to embrace what makes you special professionally and personally. Show the best part of you. As I have said many times before, I believe that all relationships start with a conversation. If your game is revealed in those conversations as opposed to playing the game trust me when I tell you the rewards are endless.
So, the new year approaches and I encourage you to "step out of the game and into your game". The rest will come naturally.
Cheers,

create an experience at home
Every one of us has contact with someone that has been affected by the change in economy this year. Perhaps it has caused you or someone you know to stop getting out and socializing as much as they used to. However, now more than ever it is important to keep positive, enjoy some laughs and reconnect with good friends.
Creating an experience at home does not have to cost a tonne of money. It can be as simple as making the perfect cup of tea and sharing it with a friend.
Our friend, Pauline Parry, owner of Good Gracious! Events in California, offers the following steps to making the perfect cup of tea in her book, "Fun Food Love".
1. Empty your kettle and fill it with freshly drawn water. 2. Put the kettle on the heat and just before it comes to a boil, pour a generous amount into your teapot, swirling it round and round inside the teapot before pouring it out. This may seem like a meaningless ritual, but it is not. This ensures that the water stays at the boiling point when it hits the tea, encouraging the proper opening of the leaves. 3. Dole out one heaping teaspoon of tea for each person and one for the pot straight into the warmed teapot. 4. The water will have reached a galloping boil by this time, but take care that the water does not boil for long as it begins to lose oxygen and this will result in a bitter muddy brew of tea. 5. Once you have poured the boiling water over the tea leaves in the pot, allow the tea to stand and brew for anywhere from three to six minutes according to the leaf size - less time for small leaves and more time for large leaves. 6. Give the tea a good stir and pour it, using a strainer to catch the leaves. 7. If you take your tea with milk, you should add it to the cup, cold and fresh before pouring the tea. 8. Relax, enjoy your tea and let the conversation ensue!
Some our favourite spots to purchase loose tea are Silk Road in Victoria and Steeps in Vancouver and Calgary. Remember, everyday holds a moment to create an experience! Live, love and laugh!

get the inside track
In the home decorating world wall tattoos seem to be all the
rage right now. But, did you know
that the event world has been using this trick for years? By using customized low tack vinyl
cutouts, we have created unique looks for low cost.
For your next event try having low-tack vinyl lettering on
the bathroom mirror. Imagine your
guest's delight when they look into the mirror and have a message telling them
"You look marvelous!" Smaller
decals can be used on serving trays to enhance a theme and some table tops can
be embellished as well. Just be
sure to make sure the vinyl is low tack!
