Volunteers of the Month
April 2011
Our Volunteers of the Month for March 2011 are Bekki and Bryan Harvey! The Harveys are lifelong animal lovers and currently pet parents to two German Shepherds and three indoor cats. Thanks to the Harveys, who can often be found working long into the night, we constantly hear how visitors love the displays at the Second Chance Treasures store. Bekki is the brains and Brian is the muscle. It is obvious how much they love volunteering at Second Chance Treasures to help support East Lake Pet Orphanage.
There's no denying it--volunteers make an amazing impact on the lives of the animals in our care. They provide comfort to the timid and injured, playtime for the energetic, and most importantly--unconditional love that some of these wonderful animals have never experienced before! For information on how you, too, can become a volunteer, visit us on-line or call us at 214-349-ELPO (3576).

April 2011 Greetings
Patrick was rescued and brought to ELPO on St. Patrick's Day !
"Patrick" was rescued by two wonderful people who found him near Fair Park drinking out of muddy water, starving and covered with mange. This loving and generous couple brought "Patrick" to the East Lake Pet Orphanage and offered to pay for his care. Our caring veterinary staff immediately bathed him and started him on revolution. "Patrick" will be out of isolation and available for showing the end of April.

Rocky says "You can make a difference!" Rocky is taking it easy with the daughter of his new human companion. What a life!
Each year East Lake Pet Orphanage is flooded with homeless animals in need of loving homes and many require extensive medical care.We are committed to our pets until they are placed into a loving home.
"Rocky" came to ELPO after being hit by a car. His shoulder was badly damaged and he earned his name by being a fighter against all the odds stacked against him. "Rocky" was adopted and received acupuncture treatments at ELVH in hopes of restoring the use of his leg. Sadly, Rocky's luck changed for the worse when several months later his owner died and he was returned to ELPO. Rocky's leg was amputated to provide the greatest comfort and mobility. He adapted readily and once again was running with the fastest of them. Rocky was adopted into another home, however was returned when he and the family did not "bond." Our team made sure Rocky was loved while at the Orphanage and he often took rides with our team members to lunch. One look at the picture above and we can be sure Rocky has finally found his dream family, and his own two little girls who were begging Mom for a dog, and all fell in love with Rocky. His story is rocky in parts, but he has made a smooth landing.
As a community shelter, we rely solely on private donations from people like you to provide life saving health care and preventive treatment for whatever time is needed until adoptive homes can be found. When you donate to East Lake Pet Orphanage, you prevent euthanasia and give a second chance to a pet in need.
Sadly, 200,000 (or 8 out of 10) pets found as strays in the Metroplex lose their lives because there are simply not enough homes for them.
You can be a HERO and make a difference today by contributing urgently needed funds to help continue our work and to close the gap on this year's current deficit of $28,332.00
The easiest way to make a donation is to go to our website www.elpo.org or www.helppets.net. On the left-hand side of the page there is button shaped like a bone that says donate. Click it, and you are taken to the page where you can use PayPal to send a secure payment. You can also mail in a gift to: East Lake Pet Orphanage 10101 E. Northwest Hwy Dallas, Texas 75238
Whether you can spare $5 or $50, your tax deductible contribution will make a difference!

Red Heelers here, Red Heelers there, it seems as though we have Red Heelers everywhere!
These furry faces pictured here are not even all of them. In total we have 5 puppies (Tyler, David, Cody, Cheri, and Charlene). The whole family had been abandoned when their previous owner moved. These precious pups were rescued from the Denton Animal Shelter.
Red Heelers are high-energy, intelligent and active dogs with a steady attitude. They will encourage you to take them outside for exercise, play and work.
Want to watch these Heelers in action? Stop by today to meet them, you won't regret it!
