life the aching
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his next again,
I shall not live in vain."

Volunteer of the Month
February 2011
Our Volunteer of the Month for February 2011 is Sherry Bartlett! Sherry is a regular at Petco and other off-site events. She is always willing to go the extra mile and fill in when there is a need. These events are very successful in finding homes for our orphans, and we could not do them without volunteers like Sherry. When Sherry is at home, she and her husband spoil their former ELPO, Grady, with lots of love and attention. There's no denying it--volunteers make an amazing impact on the lives of the animals in our care. They provide comfort to the timid and injured, playtime for the energetic, and most importantly--unconditional love that some of these wonderful animals have never experienced before! For information on how you, too, can become a volunteer, visit us on-line or call us at 214-349-ELPO (3576). |

Art for a Cause
Anyone driving past Second Chance Treasures during the holidays probably noticed the vibrant orange Christmas trees on top of the shop. What an eye-catching display! Are you a local artist that is looking for a unique way to bring attention to your creativity? We'd love to partner with you! We are looking for local artists that can create seasonal displays to place on top of Second Chance Treasures to help draw attention to our organization. If you are the artist whose work is currently on display, we will have information in the store to let shop visitors know more about you and where they can see more of your work! If interested, please call Second Chance Treasures at 214-660-9696 and leave your contact information. |

February 2011 Greetings
PLEASE HELP
Another theft has occurred at Second Chance Treasures, our resale shop benefiting homeless pets! On 2/21/11 at 3:00 a.m. someone broke into the store and stole all of the computers and equipment. These items are a vital part of the daily operations. We urgently need funds to replace these computers, or the donation of reasonably current equipment. We simply do not have the funds to replace these.

You Can Help Make a Difference!
Each year East Lake Pet Orphanage is flooded with homeless animals from dogs and cats to the occasional guinea pig or goat! All of these pets come to us in need of loving homes and many require extensive medical care.
As a community shelter, we rely solely on private donations from people like you to provide life saving health care and preventive treatment for whatever time is needed until adoptive homes can be found. When you donate to East Lake Pet Orphanage, you prevent euthanasia and give a second chance to a pet in need.
Sadly, 200,000, or 8 out of 10, pets found as strays in the Metroplex lose their lives simply because there are not enough homes for them.
You can be a HERO and make a difference today by contributing urgently needed funds to help continue our work and to close the gap on this year's current deficit of $23,501.00
Whether you can spare $5 or $50, your tax deductible contribution will make a difference!
On behalf of the homeless pets in our neighborhoods, Karen Fling, DVM President, East Lake Pet Orphanage

Our Supporters
A heartfelt thanks to our donors for the past month! Rest assured that each donation is greatly appreciated, and no donation is too large or too small. Each item is put to good use--items that we ourselves cannot use are gladly shared with other rescues and shelters in the area. It's a win-win situation!
