August's Shining Stars
smiling star

In honor of the wonderful cats in shelters everywhere that desperately need homes, we have extended Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat through September!  Adopt any cat or kitten at a half-off donation ($67.50, normally $135) between now and September 31, 2010!  OR adopt any two felines, of any ages, for the adoption donation of one.  Help us celebrate by adopting a deserving feline as a permanent part of your family!

Volunteer of the Month

thank youOur volunteer of the month for July was Raul Avila!  Raul is a new volunteer who has "jumped in with both feet."  He comes to interact and socialize our canine orphans.  Raul also visited the obedience class offered at East Lake Veterinary Hospital so that, acting as a substitute for Gus' regular trainer, he could get Gus his graduation certificate (he was adopted soon after graduation!).  Raul has a natural ability with the dogs, and we greatly appreciate his involvement.

Our volunteer of the month for August was Beverly Howard!  Beverly has been an amazing source of help at Second Chance Treasures, the resale shop benefiting the pets of East Lake Pet Orphanage.   She's always happy to lend a hand with things at the shop, and also keeps a close on the animals waiting for homes--she also doesn't hesitate to help transport the orphans back to the orphanage if they are due any medical updates!

There's no denying it--volunteers make an amazing impact on the lives of the animals in our care.  They provide comfort to the timid and injured, playtime for the energetic, and most importantly--unconditional love that some of these wonderful animals have never experienced before!  For information on how you, too, can become a volunteer, visit us on-line or call us at 214-349-ELPO (3576).

August 2010 Greetings
welcome

We hope that everyone fared well through the exciting weather this week!

These past two months have had us receiving an extraordinary amount of support through new volunteers as well as donations of pet food, medications, bedding, items for our resale efforts, as well as a wonderful outpouring of support for Judy, Minelli and Lucky.  Our amazing trio is doing well!  They are starting to wrap up the treatments needed before being placed in a permanent home together.  We're sorting through the adoption applications that we have received and trying to find the right match--all of the applicants are such wonderful candidates that it's going to be a difficult choice!  But a choice must be made, and we anticipate that we will be saying a very fond farewell to Judy, Minelli and Lucky by the end of this month as they embark on their next adventure together.  Below is a picture of the Three Amigos as they enjoy an afternoon of adoration courtesy of a fundraiser held at Cafe Lago!

A heartfelt thanks to our donors for the past two months! It's an extra long list, and that isn't just because we're listing 2 months at one time--we have had a very high number of donations coming in these last few weeks and we simply can't thank everyone enough!  Rest assured that each donation is greatly appreciated, and no donation is too large or too small.  Each item is put to good use--items that we ourselves cannot use are gladly shared with other rescues and shelters in the area. It's a win-win situation!
