Kibby

Kibby's first Christmas

"I wanted to send a few photos of "Kibby" - her name is Molly now. We adopted her in October and she is absolutely wonderful.

We love her very very much. Thank you all for taking her in and for the work you did to get her adopted. We will be forever grateful!

Jennie, Ted and Jake Strahan"

Have you adopted a wonderful pet from East Lake Pet Orphanage?  We want to tell your story!

We love to include updates and pictures of our orphans in their new forever homes!  If you aren't sure how to include a photo in an e-mail, you're welcome to mail it to us.  Send it to:   ATTN:  Renee Tyran, East Lake Pet Orphanage, 10101 E. Northwest Highway Dallas, Texas  75238.   We'll be happy to scan your picture so that it can be included with your happy ending story.  Please note that we are not able to return photographs.

Thank you, and we look forward to your submissions!
March 2010 Greetings
welcome

I'm sure we've all been enjoying the BEAUTIFUL weather these last few days, a welcome change after the not-so-Texas winter that we have experienced!  With the warmer weather comes the opportunity to get out-and-about in the community with some of our adoptable pets!  Keep an eye on our events as we begin to find great ways to spread the word about the joys of giving a home to a deserving animal!

Know of an animal-friend event coming up in the community?  Send a link to Roxanne Tucker at roxanne@welovepets.net and we'll keep it under consideration as we organize plans for the year!

We'd like to take a moment to say a special thank you to Vanessa Brown at Channel 33, who visited with Dr. Karen Fling and two of our adorable orphans!  A segment on animal adoption, featuring Charlie and Chocolat, aired this past Sunday!  Visit the Channel 33 website to see these cute critters in action!

With your help, East Lake Pet Orphanage could receive a $10,000 donation from BISSELL Homecare Inc.!

Enter your pets in the BISSELL Most Valuable Pet (MVP) Contest today! Our friends at BISSELL are accepting pet photos from the public through March 25, 2010.  In addition to having their pet featured on BISSELL pet product packaging, the lucky winning pet parents will receive a $500 shopping spree AND a $10,000 donation to the pet cause of their choice. That could be ELPO!

Four runners up will also be featured on BISSELL packaging and have donations of $5,000 or $1,000 made to their favorite pet cause. Here is your chance for East Lake Pet Orphanage to BE that favorite pet cause.

Submit a photo of your most valuable pet and then encourage everyone you know to vote.  Not only can your pet be named MVP, he could be responsible for helping many more pets like him by selecting East Lake Pet Orphanage as their favorite pet cause.  Winners will also receive a BISSELL pet-cleaning product.

We already have one entry of an East Lake Pet Orphanage adoptee, vote today!

"His name is Biscuit, formerly known as Duncan, either way, it's a cute pic you guys might enjoy!

ps: he's lost half a pound since this pic :)"

March's Orphan of the Month!

Blue

Blue is a handsome and friendly two-year-old Cattle Dog Mix who wants to be your friend!  He'd love to find an active all-adult family that likes to have lots of fun together!  He's been working on some basic training with some of our volunteers, and has proven to be a highly intelligent, eager-to-please student.  Come visit Blue today, and let him show off some of his tricks!

Visit us on-line or call us at 214-349-ELPO (3576) for more information on other wonderful animals for adoption!
Volunteer of the Month
February 2010

thank you
Our Volunteer of the Month for February 2010 was Michelle Neroes, who has been a volunteer since 10/31/01, nearly as long as East Lake Pet Orphanage has existed!  Her commitment to the animals of East Lake Pet Orphanage remains as strong as always, with her adding to the lives of each and every needy orphan.  Not just once or twice a week, but about 5 days a week finds Michelle walking dogs or playing with them on the roof.

There's no denying it--volunteers make an amazing impact on the lives of the animals in our care.  They provide comfort to the timid and injured, playtime for the energetic, and most importantly--unconditional love that some of these wonderful animals have never experienced before!  For information on how you, too, can become a volunteer, visit us on-line or call us at 214-349-ELPO (3576).
February Arrivals and Adoptions

Visit us on-line
to see photos and descriptions of the deserving creatures currently available for adoption.  The following orphans arrived and/or were adopted during the last month:

New Arrivals

Maverick, a yellow Labrador, was surrendered by his owner after being hit by a car.  He is still recovering from his injuries, but we anticipate that he will be available for adoption by the end of March.

Raisin, a Terrier mix puppy, was surrendered by her owner when another pet in the home was not accepting Raisin into the household.  She has already been adopted after being seen on Petfinder!

Apple and her five kittens (Acai, Berry, Coconut, Guava and Kiwi) were surrendered by their owner who had taken them in as strays and could not care for such a large amount of animals.  Sadly, Kiwi was not thriving and was not able to be saved.  Apple and the remaining four kittens are each undergoing treatment for a fungal skin infection, and we hope to have them available for adoption by the end of March.

Deuce, a black-and-white Border Collie Mix, was admitted when he was abandoned in his home after the death of his owner.  He is available for adoption now, visit Deuce's page for more information!

Jupiter, a brown tabby feline, was admitted after she was hit by a car and subsequently abandoned at an emergency animal hospital.  Her injuries have resulted in the amputation of one rear leg, but she is recovering beautifully!  We hope to have her available for adoption in approximately one week.

Charlie, a Chihuahua Mix, was surrendered by his owner due to some financial hardships in the family.  He is available for adoption now, visit Charlie's page for more information!  Charlie was one of the orphans featured in the segment on animal adoption on Channel 33!

Femi, a Shepherd Mix, was admitted as a stray.  We anticipate that she will be available for adoption in approximately one week.

Pauli, a cream and white tabby senior cat with extra toes on each paw (polydactyl), was abandoned outside of a veterinary hospital over a year after his owner had passed away!  At the time of his owner's death he was reportedly been being taken in by family members who lived out of town.  This is one lucky kitty, as he had been placed in a carrier hidden in some bushes during the very cold weather!  As a quiet kitty, it was sheer luck that had a hospital team member catch a glimpse of the crate when walking past after closing that night.  Pauli was already dangerously cold, and we have little doubt that he would not have survived the night outside!  He is available for adoption now, visit Pauli's page for more information!

Beckham, a tan and white Pit Bull Mix puppy, was found abandoned at a park.  He is available for adoption now, visit Beckham's page for more information!

Daisy, a white Poodle Mix, was also found abandoned at a park.  We hope to have her available for adoption in approximately one week.

Oscar, a grey and white tabby cat, was found abandoned at a park.  He has some health concerns that are currently being treated and needs to gain some weight, but has a heart of gold!  We are trying to determine the cause of his health issues so that we can continue to treat him appropriately, with the hope of having him available for adoption in late March or early April.

Shaggie, a Dachshund/Yorkshire Terrier Mix, was found as a stray.  We hope to have her available for adoption in approximately one week!

Adoptions

Annabelle, a brown tabby adult cat that had been waiting for a home since June of 2009, was adopted after being seen on the East Lake Pet Orphanage website!

Parker and Jr. Mint, two adorable kittens admitted separately, were adopted together after being seen on Petfinder!

Samantha, a Terrier mix surrendered by her owner, was adopted when her new mom was referred to us by one of our volunteers!

Humphrey, a Shih Tzu admitted as a stray, was adopted after being seen at a Girl Scout presentation!

Sally and Claire, two adorable small breed dogs admitted separately, were adopted together by a client of East Lake Veterinary Hospital!

Truffles, a Cornish Rex kitten surrendered by her owner, was adopted by someone that stopped in to visit with our available orphans!

Drew and Nancy, two kittens found as strays, were each adopted after being seen on different adoption websites!

Bailey, a kitten that had been found as a stray, was adopted after being seen on Petfinder!

Marilyn, a young kitty surrendered by her owner who had too many pets, was adopted by a client of East Lake Veterinary Hospital!
