The Winds of SpringOut of my window I can see a gentle breeze is blowing. But, last night winds were whirling around the corners of my cabin. I listen to a weather report that tells me winds are blowing from the East. In Wisconsin, the North Wind has subsided and the South Wind is mostly yet to come. However, the winds of the East and West now move around us. If we choose, the direction of the wind can have significance in our magic. The East Wind is a changing wind. It blows in the same direction as the sun moves through the sky. This wind is thought of as a cleansing wind. Standing in an East Wind can give a sense of clarity and assist in uplifting one's spirits. Traveling to a high place to stand facing an East Wind can bring peace of mind and remove obstacles you have set in your own way. The West Wind moves in the opposite direction from the sun. It is a wind best suited to be at your back. This wind at your back will push you along toward goals and new purpose. The Irish salute "May the wind be always at your back" is thought perhaps to be a reference to the magic of the West Wind. No matter where we are, the winds are with us. The weather report that tells me the winds are blowing from the East takes on a deeper meaning. Our connection to spirit is heightened by being aware of what is around us and by coming into alignment with the natural universe. May you walk in the winds of Spring this season and marvel at the power of Mother Earth.
