Tradition of Giving

This season has been a time of celebration and sharing for centuries. It is in this tradition that we ask you to consider making a gift to further the work of the Goddess. We know times are hard for many of us. It is in these times that it is most important we use our magic. What we send out returns to us three-fold. We affirm and extend this blessing to all who feel called to make a donation large or small to the Congregation.

Raise Your Voice for the Goddess
Okay, I sing. Most people say I sing pretty well. I've been in choirs since grade school, had a regular "gig" on a TV show when I was in high school, and made a CD of Goddess music. (You can order that CD from the Congregation by clicking here.)
About 25 years ago I made a pledge to no longer sing music that supported Christian theology. I believe my voice is one of the strongest gifts the Goddess and I chose for me. I wanted to honor that gift. Now, dropping Christian music may sound like not much of a big deal, but actually it has turned out to be quite pervasive. It meant no more African-American spirituals, quite a large portion of classical music was gone, a bunch of folk music had to go too and even quite a few of those songs one sings around the campfire had to get dropped from my repertoire.
But, of all the things that had to go, one of the most distressing was carols. I'm one of those people who actually knows all the verses to many carols. I enjoyed getting together with a group of friends and going door-to-door caroling. Ah, but as I began to listen to the music of the holiday season I found I did not have to give it all up. Many of the common holiday songs were actually about the winter season and some only required the change of a word or two. Even better, some familiar songs actually refer to Yule. I was gifted by friends with a book with alternative words for carols. Now, Oh Come Let us Adore us, We Three Crones, and Well Rest Ye Gentle Wimminfolk are back.
So, now I sing through the holidays once again. Winter Wonderland, Deck the Halls, and The Holly and the Ivy come to my lips once more. And, with them comes a reverence for the SUN that is born, the Mother who finds a place and the awesome beauty and power of winter.- Jade
