THE WESTLAKE EAGLE EYE E-NEWSLETTER

 Volume 16  Issue 2                                    September 2, 2010
PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
Things are humming right along here at Westlake in week two.  We have had all of our Back to School nights and we are getting into the rhythm of the school year - homework, quizzes, sports, etc. are all in full swing.

Before we dig in too deep, let me remind you about an exciting opportunity you all have to support our teachers and our classrooms as we get started - our Adopt-a-Classroom program.

Each year through our Community Partners in Education Program, WCS invites businesses and individuals to sponsor a classroom or an academic / enrichment program here at Westlake.  It's a great way to make a direct impact on the learning environment for our students.  Over the years, classroom adoptions have underwritten technology upgrades, our Drama program, Smartboard installations, art materials, and a host of other classroom needs - especially those connected with our enrichment programs.

I know that you all received information about our program over the last week, but please CLICK HERE to access the necessary forms.  If you would like more information or would like to make a designated gift to the school or a specific program, please contact me and I will walk you through the process.

Be blessed this week!

Rick Pucci
Principal

Now that we are officially in session and have finished all of our Back to School nights, it's time to read and sign all of the paperwork we sent out over the last week.  All families need to access the Parent-Student Handbook on-line, read it, and sign the 2010-2011 Affirmation Statement. We are still missing some of the Emergency Medical Forms for students.  Elementary parents, please send in your $25.00 party/trip fee by next week.  Any students participating in Athletics must have a current Sports Release on file.  Copies of all these forms may be found in the Westlake Office or click here to be directed to the downloads and forms section of our website.

WESTLAKE STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
This section of the newsletter is designed to celebrate our Westlake students and their special gifts, talents, and experiences. If your child has accomplished something outside of school or had a unique experience, we would love to share it with our WCS family.  I am especially interested in sharing special milestones and honors.  We would also love to hear from our Alumni and share their school and out of school accomplishments.  Please email Mr. Pucci with any information or pictures you would like us to share with the Westlake Family.

This week the spotlight is on Rick Kerper, the father of sixth grader, Olivia and third grader, Anna.  Rick and his wife, Lisa, recently traveled to London where Rick participated in his fourth Transatlantic Cup Golf Tournament. Just a little history, the Maccabia Games, which are the Jewish Olympics, are held every four years opposite the International Olympics.  In 1995 the men's golf teams from the US and Great Britain decided to start a tournament that would be held every two years using the same format as the Ryder Cup.  Since then, the Cup has alternated between the United States and England.  The US has won the cup 5 times to Great Britain's 4. This summer the Cup was held at the Coombe Hill Golf Club in Surrey, England and Rick won 4 out of 5 of his matches to help the US Team win the 2010 Cup!

An accomplished golfer, Rick was selected as the first alternate on the 2000 US Men's Jewish Olympic Team.  Though Rick has yet to travel to Israel, he has sponsored several fellow teammates in their quest to medal.   Now that his girls are older, Rick is ready to travel and is working to make the team once again.   Lisa is very excited and appreciates how the experience enriches their family.  "One of the best parts of the experience is reconnecting with good friends and their families, and making new friends along the way.  These interactions also create great opportunities for our kids to learn more about their dad's religious upbringing and heritage, which is important to us in our blended family.  We're very proud of Rick", says Lisa.

Way to go Rick - your Westlake family is proud of you too!
