Berkeley Botanical Garden & Downtown Berkeley Association to Unveil "Rose Pavilion" Art Installation
Meet the Artist at BART's Downtown Berkeley Station
12 noon, Monday, July 16

BERKELEY, CA Starting Monday, July 16, 2012, the main entrance to the Downtown Berkeley Station will be transformed from a functional transit stop into rose-inspired art installation. The art piece blends photography with poetry and is part of a creative collaboration between BART, the Berkeley Botanical Garden, the Downtown Berkeley Association and local artist Deborah O'Grady. "I changed this BART station into a "Rose Pavilion" that, when viewed from the platform between the escalators, will resemble stained glass windows comprised of rose images captured in the garden," Deborah O'Grady said.

According to Caner, "Thousands of daily commuters and pedestrians will be inspired this creative artwork in the heart of the revitalized Downtown Berkeley. We also hope this amazing "Rose Pavilion" installation becomes a destination the in BART system."

The media is invited at 12 noon on Monday on July 16th, to join O'Grady, John Caner of the Downtown Berkeley Association, Paul Licht, Director Berkeley Botanical Garden, as they present the "Rose Pavilion" to John McPartland, Board President, BART and Linda Maio, Vice Mayor City of Berkeley,

The "Rose Pavilion" installation will consist of 19 photographic panels sized to the fit into the windows of the Downtown Berkeley Station Rotunda. The images will are related to the concurrent Berkeley Botanical Garden art show, "Natural Discourse." The art display in the Downtown Berkeley Station is expected to run until early January 2013.
