9th Annual Math Night

Presented in partnership with the Mathematical Sciences Research InstitutePlayGround, the incubator for the next generation of Bay Area playwrights, presents 6 original short plays on the topic of "Patterns of Chaos" in collaboration with the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute. Each month, from October through March, PlayGround announces a topic to a pre-selected writers pool of Bay Area emerging professional playwrights, inviting the submission of original ten-page plays. The best six of these plays are presented as staged readings before a live audience, featuring some of the Bay Area's best directors and actors. Pre-show discussions with each month's writers provide additional insight into the writers' process, the state of Bay Area theatre, and more. |

Science at the Theater: Extreme Science
Monday, February 27, 7-9pm Berkeley Repertory Theatre FREE Neutrino hunting in Antartica, the world's most powerful microbe, microbes that love extremes, and microbes that talk to computers! From big to small and far and wide, the incredible breadth of research at Laurence Berkeley Lab will be on display at the next installation of "Science at the Theater," which will focus on extreme science. Learn why Spencer Klein and Tamas Torok go to the ends of the Earth to search for these ghostly neutrinos and microbial diversity. Hear how Andrew Minor uses the world's most advanced electron microscopes to explore materials at ultrahigh stresses and in harsh environments, and how Caroline Ajo-Franklin is pioneering cellular-electrical connections that could help transform sunlight into fuel.
