Dear Downtown Business Owner, Property Owner, and Other Stakeholders:
On June 28th, the ballots were counted, and 71% of Downtown Berkeley property owners voted (proportionally by assessment) to form a new Property-Based Business Improvement District (PBID) for Downtown Berkeley. (Click here to read the press release). The PBID will commence operations on January 1, 2012, and will be focused primary on clean, safe, and beautification programs as outlined in our PBID Management Plan.
Our top priority is to launch our clean and safe team in January to deliver on the plan for a more welcoming and vibrant Downtown Berkeley. Currently, we are drafting a Request for Proposal (RFP) for cleaning and safety service vendors as outlined in the Management Plan. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments, or would like to learn more about the evaluation process. (FYI, we expect the current Host Ambassador program to be integrated into the new program).
Later this Fall, we will initiate a Strategic Marketing Planning Process to help refine our marketing, promotion, events, and business attraction program for Downtown Berkeley. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments or would like to learn more about this process as well.
We will keep you apprised of our progress in creating and sustaining a welcoming, vibrant, and prosperous Downtown Berkeley.
Sincerely,
John Caner Executive Director Downtown Berkeley Association 2230 Shattuck Avenue, Suite C Berkeley, CA 94704 510.549.2230 x12 jcaner@downtownberkeley.org
