BSC / INFUSION Tech Lunch with Craig Newmark

The Downtown Berkeley Association, in partnership with INFUSION and the Berkeley Startup Cluster (BSC), would like to invite you to a Tech Lunch featuring Craigslist founder, Craig Newmark.

Thursday, April 14, 12noon-1:30pm

Freight and Salvage Coffeehouse, 2050 Addison St., Berkeley

12noon-12:30: Lunch is $15 at the door, or $10 for students, for lunch catered by The Bread Workshop. RSVP to [email protected] for lunch.

12:30-1:30: Discussion is free to the public.

What if Gandhi's reincarnation emerged as someone promoting the Web instead of the spinning wheel as the agent for social change? That might be craigslist founder Craig Newmark, who last month launched craigconnects.org, a nonprofit "to get the word out about people of good who get stuff done...and who never had a voice until now." So far, the site contains lists - lists of organizations doing community building, journalism integrity, transparency in government, service, veterans' issues, and peace in the Middle East.

Interviewing Craig will be Scott Rosenberg, internet savant, founder of Salon.com, author of two books (Dreaming in Code and Say Everything), and long-time Berkeley resident.

Also this month, the Berkeley Cybersalon takes place from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 17, and features Steven Levy, author of In the Plex: How Google Thinks, Works, and Shapes Our Lives, which reveals what really happens at Google from an insider's view. The author details how the Google culture - coming from the top - influences everything the company produces. Levy will be interviewed by Techcrunch TV host Andrew Keen. This event takes place at the Hillside Club, 2286 Cedar St., between Spruce and Arch and a few blocks north of the UC campus. Admission is $10 at the door and $5 for students.

These events (INFUSION and the Berkeley Cybersalon) are hosted in partnership with The Berkeley Startup Cluster (www.berkeleystartupcluster.org), which was recently formed to encourage high-tech startups and companies to locate in Berkeley.
