For the parents out there, it's time to plan the summer and register for camps. Here's our list for Downtown Berkeley - a growing summer camp destination.  

 

THEATRE  

Berkeley Repertory School of Theatre

Summer Theatre Intensive 

 

Bay Area Children's Theatre Camp  

Now teaching in their new location at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse

 

The Marsh - A Breeding Ground for New Performance

Currently, summer camps are taking place only at the SF location. But they are expanding the programming at the Marsh Arts Center (formerly Gaia Arts), so keep an eye on them!  

 

MUSIC  

Jazzschool

Summer Youth Program 

Open to instrumentalists entering grades 7, 8, 9, and 10 with openings for all wind instruments, piano, guitar, vibes, bass, drum set, and hand percussion. Daily sessions for jazz and Latin big bands, small ensembles, and contemporary musical styles from around the world.

 

High School Jazz Intensives 

A five-day jazz intensive for advanced high school jazz instrumentalists.  Six to eight advanced high-school musicians are selected to work closely with top Bay Area jazz artists for a week of rehearsals, master classes, and private sessions.  

 

Girls Jazz and Blues Camp   

A supportive environment where girls have fun and develop self confidence, while honing improvisation skills and ensemble techniques.

Jazz Combo, Blues/Funk Band, Latin Band. Percussion Ensemble, Gospel Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Songwriting, Theory & Improvisation, Big Band, Private Lessons.   

 

Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse

Fiddle Kids Camp   

A unique, fun-filled summer day camp for children, devoted to traditional fiddle music. At fiddlekids, bluegrass, Appalachian, Celtic, jazz, klezmer, and other traditional fiddle styles are explored through tunes, songs, dance, and art.  

  

MATH & SCIENCE  

Quantum Camp

High End Science for Young Adults  

Providing scientific and mathematical enhancement your child needs to be successful. Classes are designed to connect students to the universe and create an appetite for learning.

 

RECREATION AND ARTS  

Habitot Children's Museum  

Summer Camp 

Ten weeks of fun for tots, each week, a different theme, from Mayan Mysteries (a Spanish immersion camp) to Cars, Boats, Trains and Planes for kids on the go. Half-day morning and afternoon programs for

2.9 to 5 year olds begin in June and run through August.   

YMCA

Summer Camp 

Our day camps encourage fun, self-discovery, and group adventures while teaching important character values. YMCA camps are age specific and ensure a meaningful and exciting experience for all campers. We include a variety of activities, from games, sports and art to science and cooking and a range of programs to fulfill the changing interests of our community's youth.
