Greetings! Each year we join with others across the country in recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Everyone Has a Hand in Stopping Violence is our theme this year, prompted by our new logo and further developed through the community-wide art project and awareness bracelets described below. We invite you to lend us your hand as we take steps to raise awareness and prevent future tragedies in our communities.

MAAV's 16th Annual Walk & Candlelight Vigil

Where: Starts and ends at the Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School, 350 Lynn Fells Parkway in Melrose

EPOCHLend a Hand to Our Community Art Project! 

Join us at the Milano Center on Friday, Oct. 14 from 6:30-8:00 pm as we finish off our Community Art Project with Kris Rodolico from Follow Your Art. This is a project for all ages and ability levels, and we encourage everyone to participate in some small way. Pictured here, friends from MAAV's mentoring program and EPOCH Senior Healthcare of Melrose greatly enjoyed the process!  Learn more in this article by the Melrose Free Press. The final project will be on display at the Candlelight Vigil at the middle school on October 23.

Designed by Walk Committee member Diane MacDonald, our bracelets this year include purple, pearl and crystal beads and a silver charm in the shape of a hand. With an extension chain, it can also be worn as a necklace. Bracelets are $20 and can be purchased at Miter Biter Frame Co., Madison Avenue of Melrose, at the Walk or by contacting MAAV.

Partners in Prevention: The Melrose Public Schools and MAAV were honored to present an overview of our community-wide teen dating violence prevention programs to approximately 200 professionals at the School Safety Summit sponsored by Middlesex District Attorney's Office on Sept. 26 in Westford, MA.
