Greetings! October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Sadly, 21 people have died as a result of domestic violence in Massachusetts since last October. At our 14th Annual Walk & Candlelight Vigil, we honor their lives and renew our commitment to prevent such tragedies. Please join us by walking or supporting the Walk, and help light the way to ending domestic violence.
BraceletsOur Reasons for Walking
MAAV's Walk is also a fundraiser which enables us to continue offering services and programs to the community. The easiest way to give is online. Click here and then on "view all fundraising pages" to see the names of 40 people raising funds for MAAV and why they are passionate about the cause. Read why this little boy is Rebecca Mooney's reason for walking. Check out the competition for Top Teams and Top Fundraisers!

Bracelets"In Memoriam" Bracelet
Sharon Loveridge has designed a beautiful new bracelet for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with each bead representing one the 21 victims of domestic violence in our state since last October. It includes a card listing the names of those honored. Bracelets are $15 each and will be sold at the Walk, or can be ordered online for $18 including shipping. 100% of the proceeds support services for victims of domestic violence.
BraceletsMAAV Leads Discussion on Memoir "A Private Family Matter"

Victor Rivas Rivers endured horrific child abuse and witnessed domestic violence at the hands of his father which he chronicles in his New York Times bestseller, A Private Family Matter. The book is available at the Melrose Public Library, Barnes & Noble in Saugus or by contacting MAAV. Domestic Violence Officer Pam Daye and MAAV Director Rebecca Mooney will lead a discussion on this powerful memoir on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 pm at the Melrose Public Library. All are welcome.

Visit the Melrose Public Library and check out the display of books and DVD's on domestic violence throughout the month of October. Look for MAAV bookmarks featuring signs of healthy & unhealthy relationships.
