APRIL 2009
Greetings!

   vinca2
Happy April!  I hope that Easter was a nice weekend for you!  Just the right amount of work and relaxation for me,  which is just what the doctor ordered.  The only thing that could have made it better is if my family lived close enough to visit.  At least I didn't eat too much, which is usually what happens when I am with family!

This month I am showcasing my Japanese Facial Massage.  I am not sure if everyone knows about this incredibly relaxing service I have to offer.  SO, to give you a chance to try it out, I am offering the session at a reduced price of $30.  It normally costs $40, so this would be a good opportunity to add an extra 30 minutes onto your normal massage!  Believe me, you will leave my office glowing!

Ok, enough of the sales pitch - lol!  Hope your Spring is turning out to be one filled with promise!  I look forward to seeing you soon.
The New Economy and Stress

OK, I really didn't want to go here - since it is all that we are hearing about.  But, it is a good topic, and stress is one thing I can help with!  YAY

Sometimes worry about the future can be highly debilitating.  A good habit to get into is taking time to let yourself breathe, be still and focus on the current moment.  This allows us to see the situation clearly and to make the best decisions that we can make.  I know that I have been sending a lot of stuff about meditation lately, but I truly believe that it can help!

Another method to combat the stress in tough times is to do some journaling.  Make sure your writing isn't all about the negative stuff that is in your head.  Writing about anything that you feel grateful for or happy about goes a long way towards feeling better about your situation.  Even if it is as small as being grateful for your peaceful pet fish, who is fun to watch for 5 minutes a day!  Write down whatever comes up for you.  It is a good tool to help you work through any problems you need to resolve.  I just did a google search to find a good link to give out here, but there are so many good articles and information sites that I couldn't choose.  So, if you want more information, google journaling!!

Lastly, make sure you take the time to care for yourself.  Eat well, Sleep the right amount of time, Keep in touch with friends, Exercise regularly and allow yourslef some "down" time.

Stress Relief through Stretching (Part 6)
 neck pain
As always I welcome ideas for this article. Let me know if you have an area that you would like addressed soon, and I will put that in the next issue.

Lower Legs and feet:

I get a few complaints about pain on the soles of feet, particularly with the first steps taken upon waking.  This could be a precursor to Plantar Fasciitis and good stretching can combat this painful syndrome:
  • The calves are crucial to feeping pain away from the feet.  Tight calves will also cause shin splints and keeping this area stretched is always a good plan.
  • Chronic tightness in the calves can be caused by wearing high heeled shoes, climbing ladders or running up steep slopes.  If these activities are in your daily routine, you may want to consider daily care of your calf muscles!

Stretching for the lower leg:

  • The classic runner's stretch is a good one to do anytime of the day.  Place your hands against any wall, solid piece of furniture or railing and lean forward, bending the ankles at an acute angle.  If one knee is bent you can achieve a deeper stretch in the unbent leg.  You can also have both feet parrallel and bend both knees.  See which feels best for you.
  • Lying on your back with one leg straight up in the air, wrap a towel or yoga strap around the ball of the foot and pull the toes down.  The leg on the ground can stay flat out or can be bent at the knee.  Try to keep the pelvis in a neutral position.
  • Self masage can be done on the legs and the feet.  Try squeezing your calf muscles and vigorously rubbing them side to side.  For the soles of the feet - rolling a tennis ball under your feet is great to loosen them up!

Enjoy your stretches!!! Until next time....

I look forward to seeing you soon!
