Meet Media Entrepreneur Geraldine Laybourne on April 3
Geraldine Laybourne is a serial media entrepreneur. She founded Oxygen Media, a 24-hour cable television network for young women, where she served as Chairman and CEO until she sold it to NBC Universal in 2007. Gerry was a cable programming pioneer in the 80's and 90's: she led the team that created Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite. She also served as president of Disney/ABC Cable Networks (from 1996-1998) where she ran cable programming for the Walt Disney Company and its ABC subsidiary.
Ms. Laybourne will join Jorge Reina Schement, Dean of the School of Communication and Information, at IWL on Tuesday, April 3, in a conversation about women's leadership in the media. Center on Violence Against Women and Children Joins Institute for Women's Leadership
 | |
Judy Postmus, Director, Center on Violence Against Women and Children |
The IWL consortium now includes nine participating members. In January, the Institute board voted unanimously and enthusiastically to approve the Center's request to join the IWL consortium.
Founded at the Rutgers School of Social Work in 2007 by Judy Postmus, associate professor and center director, the mission of the Center on Violence Against Women & Children (VAWC) is to strive to eliminate physical, sexual, and other forms of violence against women and children and the power imbalances that permit these forms of violence.
"The addition of the Center on Violence Against Women and Children brings an important dimension to IWL 's work on advancing women's leadership for social justice. The outstanding energy and leadership of Dr. Judy Postmus is an important addition to our consortium. We are delighted to welcome her and look forward to building collaborative programs," said Alison Bernstein, IWL Director.

NYC Leadership Scholars Winter Reunion
Leadership Scholars in the New York area gathered for a Winter Reunion at the home of IWL Director Alison Bernstein on the Upper West Side. Co-hosted by Dr. Bernstein and Leadership Scholar alumna Janine Gianfredi, the reunion was an excellent-- and fun-- opportunity to re-connect and learn the many ways the IWL Leadership Scholars Program is thriving. |
