"Blue Skies"
Strategic Plan for IWL

The Institute for Women's Leadership is initiating a "Blue Skies" Strategic Planning process to examine our vision, goals, and strategic focus. According to IWL Director Alison R. Bernstein, "The 'Blue Skies' process is an opportunity for IWL directors and stakeholders to consider how to build on accomplishments and to engage new ideas and possibilities for growth as we enter our third decade as a consortium.   Over the next six months we will be consulting with Rutgers leaders as well as alumnae, business and community leaders to gain their insights on IWL's future."

You
Can Change
the Face of Leadership

Generous support from people like you provides outstanding learning opportunities for students. This year, IWL donors helped create internships for Leadership Scholars, supported research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, developed a new mentoring program for teen girls in foster care, and enabled students to interview women leaders and create documentary films based on the interviews.

You can make a difference in the lives of young leaders.

Combining Two PassionsErica Halpern

Erica Halpern is an IWL Leadership Scholar majoring in communications at the School of Arts and Sciences. A member of the Rutgers Dance Team, Erica is a junior with a love of dance and a deep commitment to social justice. As an IWL Leadership Scholar, Erica combined these two passions in her social action project, "Dancing Against Domestic Violence." In collaboration with Dottie's House, a transitional housing facility designed to aid women and children who have survived domestic violence, Erica organized a two-part dance and wellness workshop for survivors of domestic violence.  Click here to learn more about students' social action projects.

Student-produced Documentary Films Feature Intergenerational Conversations

on Leadership

Cathy Stanford and Anna Zailik
Anna Zailik, an IWL Leadership Scholar and Douglass Residential College student, is a journalism and media studies major with a women's and gender studies minor. Her passion for human rights and film was fueled by participating in the Transforming Lives Documentary Film project co-sponsored by IWL and Rutgers Writers House. She interviewed union leader and social justice activist Cathy Stanford and produced an 8-minute documentary about Cathy based on the interview. Anna reflects: "I chose to do my film about Cathy Stanford, the first indentured pipefitter in her local union.... I wanted to represent her in a way that shows her compassion for people and her overall fire for social justice. I value our relationship and she is becoming a mentor to me." Visit the IWL website to learn more about the Transforming Lives Documentary Film project and to see Anna Zailik's filmmaker's statement and her film "Cathy Stanford: A Journey Woman."
