  • promotes HOT as a vehicle to provide meaningful service opportunities
  • enables both foreigners and Japanese nationals to give back in a tangible way to local, under-served populations

Playroom and Garden Renovation
Date: Saturday September 26th
Time: First shift: 9:00-12:00
          Second shift: 13:00-16:00
Volunteers will be asked to come early for set up and basic orientation.
Project Coordinators will provide more details.
Place: Saiseikai Central Hospital
Address:  Mita 1-4-17, Minato-ku, Tokyo
Volunteers Needed: 40, please advise your shift preference

Help prepare the playroom and outside stairs for painting and renovation. Work will involve prepping walls for painting, scraping paint off stairs and railings.

Date: Saturday October 3rd
Time: First shift: 9:00-12:00
          Second shift: 13:00-16:00
Volunteers will be asked to come early for set up and basic orientation.
Project Coordinators will provide more details.
Place: Saiseikai Central Hospital
Address: Mita 1-4-17, Minato-ku, Tokyo
Volunteers Needed: 70, please advise your shift preference
Age Requirement: Age 15 years and up

Volunteers will repaint the playroom and other spaces, repaint outdoor railings and baby wagons, build wooden deck and green garden area at entrance, and erect privacy screens and educational canvases in outdoor play area. This project is undertaken in collaboration withWith A Brush of Love Logo With a Brush of Love, Inc., a U.S.-based environmental design firm for children with special needs 
Photography Lesson for Children
Date: October 3rd
Time: 14:00-16:00 pm
Volunteers will be asked to come early for set up and basic orientation.
Project Coordinators will provide more details.
Place: Wakabaryo Children's Home
Address: 2-19-1 Ohashi, Meguro-Ku, Tokyo
Volunteers Needed: 20
Age Requirement: Over 10 years old

Volunteers will instruct children in digital photography techniques with the guidance of a professional photographer. Children will photograph one another, the volunteers and staff, then print and frame their favorite photos in handmade frames they will create that day.

Special Olympics Sports Festival
Date:  October 3rd
Time: 14:00-16:30
Volunteers will be asked to come early for set up and basic orientation.
Project Coordinators will provide more details.
Place: National Olympics Memorial Youth Center
Address:
3-1 Yoyogi Kamizono-cho, Shibuya-Ku, Tokyo
Volunteers Needed: 20
Age Requirement: Age 15 and up

Volunteers will instruct and join the athletes in playing games and dancing followed by a party where volunteers will entertain the athletes with stories and performances. 
International Festival for Blind Children
Date: October 3rd
Time: 14:00-16:00
Booth leaders and set up volunteers will be asked to come early. Project Coordinators will provide more details.
Place: T's Ginza
Address: 5-5-14 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo
Volunteers Needed: 50
Age Requirement: Over 10 years old

Volunteers from 5 different countries will set up unique booths showcasing their country's food, music, language and products. Children will move from booth to booth on a virtual trip around the world.
Crafts Lesson for Seniors
Date: October 3rd
Time: 14:00-16:00
Volunteers will be asked to come early for set up and basic orientation.
Project Coordinators will provide more details.
Place: Hakujusou Senior Home
Address: 2-19-1 Ohashi, Meguro-Ku, Tokyo
Volunteers Needed: 50
Age Requirement: All ages welcome

Volunteers will handcraft greeting cards with the senior residents. Suitable for families and children of all ages.
Special Olympics Bowling Tournament
Date: October 3rd
Time: 9:30-14:00
Volunteers will be asked to come early for set up and basic orientation.
Project Coordinators will provide more details.
Place: Tokyo Port Bowl
Address: Shibaura 1-13-10, Minato-ku, Tokyo
Volunteers Needed: 50
Age Requirement: Age 15 years and up

Volunteers and athletes will form teams for a bowling tournament followed by a lunch and Bingo Game with the athletes. Bowling experience required.
After Party for Volunteers

Come and celebrate the end of a meaningful day with Hands On Tokyo volunteers, sponsors and partner organizations.

Creating Unique Spaces for Unique Kids: Environmental Design for Special Needs Children

Speaker Lauren Henry is CEO and founder of With A Brush of Love, Inc., an environmental design firm specializing in creating unique spaces for children with special needs. The seminar will cover topics including: the importance of color, how color affects a child's surroundings and why; the differences between pattern and design; environmentally-sound products and ideas; budget-saving tips; how to select lighting; how to make design decisions for rooms that are shared by siblings or used in a multipurpose fashion, and spatial organization.

This seminar is appropriate for educators, caregivers and families of children with special needs. (Please note: the seminar is open to adults only)
